The spin cycle is used to rid the water by centrifugal force. As the tub spins, the water iis forced out of the clothes. The banging noise comes from the weight of clothes being on one side making the load unbalanced. The machine will absorb some minor unbalancing. If it gets real loud & the machine starts dancing, shut the machine off by raising the lid, when tub stops, rearrange clothes.
What is the model # of your machine????
The loud banging noise sounds like the loads were getting unbalanced. This is the most likely since i have no problems with the suspension all of a sudden not stabilizing tub properly. If the washer was moved or transported than that would make more sense to me. please provide as much info as you can. Try doing a load of 10 towels. Let me know how that does and with the model # i can help with pulling some diagnostic codes
A washer that leaks only during the spin cycle often has a leak in the main drain hose. Inspect the entire hose and correct any problem you find. Alternatively, the steel or plastic outer tubs can rust, split, or be punctured. This may be most visible during large loads and high water levels. If this happens, you may have to replace the entire outer tub.The banging noise is due to being unbalanced. You may need to replace the balance ring on the top of the drum inside the washer. Watch this Video to see if this is how your machine is acting.
Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.
HI There Try this even tho you said it's balanced. Sometimes it looks like but a slight unbalanced can cause this problem. It's noisyMost

I'm not a repair professional. I am just a 78 year man who has done his own washer repair for about 50 years. You might have a bad lid switch that keeps the washer from spinning. You might have an unbalanced load in the machine which makes the noise. The unbalanced load might also be the cause of not spinning.
Loud banging is usually an unbalanced load. whining noise is some times debris trapped in drain pump causing it to squeal like a fan belt on a car. Strings, threads and hoses tend to get wrapped under agitator and cause noise, too.
This is joyce
You may want to go to kenmore.com and download your document to that machine and see if you can get help but it sounds like you have bearings gone bad in machine drum, I had same problem with mine, or it could be something as simple as a pully loose. check it out take the back off machne and check the pullys for tightness.
let me know if this helps
