Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Wireless Network Adapter

I am having problems configuring a brand new XBOX 360 Wireless Adapter. I currently have two Xbox 360's, the other console is wireless as well and works fine, however the new adapter is not recognized by either. Upon loading up the LED stays solid red which tells me the USB port works, but when I go to configure the console for wireless under "edit settings" the wireless options are greyed out and unaccessible, my other adapter works on both consoles. I returned it in exchange for another adapter twice and got the same results this being the third one, is it possible that the store in which I purchased them from just so happen to have a bad batch or could it be a router configuration? I've cold started/reset router to out of box configs i.e no security, SSID broadcasting, still no joy. Any suggestions?

    John,

Yes it was the one in the back, but I'm all set now, come to find out that is in fact what it was, I had bought two (2) bad adapters (what are the odds), the third one finally worked. Thanks for your help though.

    Hello,
have the same problem as described above, and want to see if there is any fix available other than returning for a new adapter?

Any news on what might be causing this, or is this purely hardware related issue that has to be swapped out?

    thanks

Most likely the wireless adapters are in the back of the console. The usb ports are in front of the consoles.

How do i hook my mi-fi internet to the xbox 360? i have purchased an adapter and can not figure out how to get the internet working

Here's how to configure your wireless settings:
  1. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Network Settings.
  3. If you are prompted to select a wireless network, complete these steps, otherwise skip to step 4.
    1. Select the name of your wireless network.
    2. Enter your wireless network password and select Done.
    3. The console will automatically try connecting to Xbox LIVE. If you get an error message, go to the following webpage for help: support.xbox.com/pages/xbox-live/troubleshoot/connection-issues/connect-xbox-live.aspx (http://support.xbox.com/pages/xbox-live/troubleshoot/connection-issues/connect-xbox-live.aspx)

Note If you do not see the name of your wireless network, select Advanced Options. Then select Specify Unlisted Network and enter your wireless network name. Select your wireless security type (WEP, WPA, WPA, or No Security). This security type needs to match the security of your wireless network.

  4. Select Configure Network.
  5. On the Basic Settings tab, select Wireless Mode.

Note If wireless mode is not available and you are using the black Wireless N Networking Adapter, try using the software installation disc included with the adapter. For more information about how to do this, please see the following article: 977641 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977641/ ) How to set up the Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter
  6. Select Scan for Networks.
  7. Select your wireless network name.

If your network is not listed, try the following:
    1. Select Specify Unlisted Network, and enter your wireless network name (also referred to as your Service Set Identifier [SSID]).
    2. Select your wireless security: WEP, WPA, WPA2, or No Security (if your network doesn't have a password).

If you can't connect to your wireless network, try improving your wireless signal using the tips in the following article: 909336 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909336/ ) Your Xbox 360 console receives a weak wireless signal
  8. Enter your wireless network password, and then select Done.

Note Make sure that you have entered the correct password. An incorrect password might allow your console to connect to your wireless network, but you might receive an IP address error when you test your Xbox LIVE connection.

  9. Press B on your controller, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

I just subscribed to wireless internet, what does

IF you have a wireless modem/router and yous wish to hook up your xbox 360 into it, you need to purchase a wireless networking adapter for the Xbox 360 because the Xbox does not come with a built in wireless card. Once you have that accessory you can configure the wireless network in your console.

Are all xbox 360's able to connect to wireless broadband

Yes, with the wireless adapter, and wireless router, any Xbox 360 can go wireless.

Go to "My Xbox" -> "Network Settings" -> "Configure Network", the Xbox will ask you a few things about your network, and that's it. You should be connected pretty easily.

Xbox Live Connection Interrupted

Ok, all you have to do when it comes to buying a wireless reciever is to buy the microsoft brand one made for xbox live. (100 dollars) Once you have this;
1. turn of the xbox 360 and plug in the adapter.
2.turn on the 360 and go to the network settings option
3. this should bring up a page offering a view of you ip address and ect., go to the bottom link (3rd), and select it.
4. this should give you the option to select your wireless network, then connect to it and test the xbox live connection.
5. Once you pass the test, continue to hit "b" until you are back at the very main menu and begin playing!

Connect to wireless

I believe the X-Box does NOT have Wifi built in? (sic)Surprisingly, the Xbox 360 doesn't have wireless networking built in. If you don?t fancy using the wired Ethernet method, you can invest in a wireless networking adapter. Microsoft has its own adapter specifically designed for the Xbox 360, but third-party Wifi-certified devices will work just as well.(sic) From the below site. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:d7LlkY7Zo1sJ:www.vnunet.com/personal-computer-world/hardware/2147007/microsoft-xbox-360+xbox+360+wifi+is+built+in%3F&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2 So that may be ya problem?

Link Your Console to Another Console

Console-to-Console Connection: Wireless Some Xbox games offer console-to-console, or system-link, play, in which two or more players (depending on the game) can wirelessly network their consoles for multiplayer use. Console-to-console wireless networks are also known as ad-hoc networks. In ad-hoc networks, a wireless adapter on one device connects directly to a wireless adapter on another device. An Internet connection isn't shared with this type of network, and the console-to-console connection is typically temporary. For console-to-console play, you need: Two Xbox 360 consoles. Two Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapters. An Xbox 360 game that supports system link play. To wirelessly connect your console to another console: Attach an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter to the back of each console as described in Use Your Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter. On each console, go to the System area to enter your network settings. (They will be the same for each console.) If all settings are correct, exit the System area. The consoles should now be wirelessly connected to each other.
