Asus updater Hi whenever my laptop tries to update it freezes up completely - i cant shut it down normally or do anything except switch it off from the button. It send out warnings an error notes like ' the parameter is incorrect' etc. I use norton 2006 software. do you think this is a viral problem or a hardware issue?

    anaging and updating your BIOS
The following utilities allow you to manage and update the motherboard

My Asus X83Vb is running on Windows 7. The CD drive gets stuck or freezes whenever I try to burn a CD.I'm starting to believe its a driver issue because the laptop was made for Windows Vista. I'm running...

Normally there should not be the drivers issue with CD ROM because windows 7 has almost the drivers for hardwares available.
To make sure you can go to device manager and uninstall the ATA channel1 and DVD cd ROM drive drivers after clicking on them.
After rebooting the drivers will be reloaded and reboot the system once more.

If then also the issue is not resolved try with soft eject (right click on drive icon and click eject). If then also the issue persists then the issue is with hardware.

You problem can be processors damaged multimedia part such as MMX or SSE technologies but such cases processor also "gets dead", for your main problem must be cooler fun it can have dust and some part of "woolen" and "cotton" fibers in its "wheel" and don’t let to cool processor, so when reaching its maximum temperature processor automatically shuts down your PC. Try to clean it and everything will be all right.

    Acer Laptop won't boot

Just allow the updating to complete. Normally it does that as many times as the number of updates installed.

As of now there is no problem with your OS yet but if you will keep avoiding the updates to complete, it might be corrupted.

    hope this Helps.

You might have connected to interent and your windows updates are automatically downloaded. You need to install those updates. Actually it did not shut but power goes off may be it was on stand by mode. Now shut down (press Alt+F4) your laptop from menu. Choose Install Updates and Shut Down from the drop down list.
Now it will install updates and after completion it will automatically shut down your laptop. Hope it works
