Question about SanDisk Sansa c140 MP3 Player

Refreshing data base

I just bought my sansadisk c240 2.0 gb and when i tried to upload my music it stopped at refresh database and now i cant the the menu it just goes to resfresh data base and doesnt do anything

This is the firmware update utility for Sanca c140 (c100 series) devices.

There is a howto.txt file included, follow the instructions.I am posting the instructions here for convenience.


1. Download the attached file and save it on the desktop.
(the player should not be attached to the computer at this point)
2. Double click the file to run it.
3. Accept the license agreement.
4. Remove the battery from the mp3 player.
5. Press and hold the center (select) button and connect it to the computer (keep holding the button, this is the firmware update mode).
6. If the New Hardware Wizard appears (now you can let go of the select button), do the following: (if asked, choose not to connect to the internet for updates), then choose to install the device automatically, then follow the prompts to finish the installation.
7. When the wizard comes up, or when the Update button becomes active (whichever happens first), you may release the select button.
8. Click the Update button, and then click OK to the message that comes up.
9. Wait until the upgrade finishes, then unplug the device.
10. Put the battery back in, and turn on the player.
11. Hopefully the update will be performed, then choose English for the language when prompted.
12. Check if the issue is resolved.

Sansa clip is stuck on Refresh Database Screen.


1ST: Just try to 'reset' by holding down the main center button AND pushing UP on the lock/off-on button, for about 8-9 seconds,
It will then 'refresh' the database, shouldn't lose anything,
OR:
MANY problems can be fixed ultimately by the following;
REFORMAT the SansaDisk Clip by finding it in My Computer and right click then just 'format' the thing. THEN drag and drop new music into it (or books), DRAG and DROP, you apparently erase the thing with a 'FORMAT' ....BUT - it's .sys files remain and it is like new {as in empty}
This usually fixes almost anything, should even erase a virus (I'm guessing) but shouldn't hurt it.

Refresh database


I had the "Refresh Database" problem with my C250, it just sat there after turning it on! However, the GOOD NEWS is, I corrected it! First I connected it to my PC, then FORMATTED the unit. This gave me an empty player that at least would turn on. Then I downloaded the Sansa "Updater" from the SanDisk website. After setting up the updater software, I connected the C250. It automatically checked for any new firmware, and loaded it into the player. After that I restarted the C250 and it again came up OK without any music loaded. The last thing I did was to load only 1.8 GB worth of music files. My take on the problem is that if you overload the memory, or interupt a file while loading, then the "datbase" function never gets done. I've had mine running for about a week now without problems! I have the same problem and can not figure it out!!! how do I refresh database??!!!grrrrrr

Very weird...


'Refresh Database' doesn't mean everything is erased. It only means it's writing the progress that you made, onto the computer. It stays on 'Refresh Database' for about maybe 5-10 minutes. It refreshes its database every time you disconnect your MP3 player from the computer. What it does when you disconnect it from the computer is it saves any unsaved changes made to it and overwrites the memory or data.

Refreshing data base


It refreshes the database to build the menu for you to navigate.

Your device may have corrupt data in it and therefore takes longer than normal to build the library.

You can format the device to remove everything, and then re-transfer them to see if that helps.

To format in My Computer>Device Name (e250)>right Click and select format.

Sorry, no habla espanol. Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted. http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool. - Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds) - Slide the hold switch into "hold" position. - Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer. Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted. Best of Luck.

Refresh database freezes


Try updating the firmware of your player. Switch the player to recovery mode (enable hold switch and press and hold the record and power button until you see on the screen welcome to recovery mode) download the sansa firmware updater on the sandisk website and install it to your computer. When it ask to connect the device connect the player and check if there are updates on the player. Also try to format the player it may be the songs on the player is causing the problem.
