Do you mean that the hinges broke and the screen is no longer attached to the laptop. I googled '
Alienware M11X R2 screen' and one of the first results is a story from PC World which contains:
"Dell will repair broken hinges on any Alienware M11x system for any R1 or R2 customer worldwide regardless of warranty status," wrote Dell's John Blain, in a blog entry on the company's website.
check to see if your vga cable is properly connected at both ends i.e. at the monitors end as well as the computers end. In case it doesn't solve the issue then your vga port is damaged.
Does it look like it is running with the exception of the screen being black?
Does it ever post anything on the screen when you hit the power button?
Beep tones and blinking lights tells thetechnicians what is going on with the laptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issue when you hear beeps or blinking lightscontinuous.
Do you see anything on the monitor screen? Does the tower make any beeping noise or clicking noise, or does the fan tries to start up when you power the computer on? Are the cables connected properly?
If you see anything on the monitor screen, or if you hear a beeping sound, let us know so we can diagnose further.
your computer fails to both there is a problem on you hardwares.here are some steps to diagnose your cpu.. 1.reset all your your PCI/PCIE cards.pull it out from the socket and plug it again. 2.did you hear a beep code after you press the power button? a 1 long beep indicates a faulty on videocard replace it no beep dead mother board. 3.remove the IDE connector for your hardisk and try to booth the system.... 4.Try to reset the bios by removing the CMOS battery.
Check if you have several connectors for monitors, and if the cable is plugged in properly.
In case the monitor has a cable with removeable connector, check if that side is plugged in properly as well.
If you use onboard and graphic card together, try to switch from what you try to use now, to the other one (ex. using GFX card now, switch to onboard connector if available, and see what happens). In case your pc/laptop is in standby, push the power button for a second.
If your pc beeps on startup (that's called post signal), consider the mainboard manufactur for the beep code (a few short and/or long beeps). For example, a common but not obvious reason for this problem can be not properly installed RAM. If all that doesn't help, check if the monitor works on another computer. If not, then it might be broken or might need a new cable.
