You should open up the case and makesure it is still plugged in. If so look in the local phone book for a pc repair shop. They should keep items like that in stock. You can probably just buy one for maybe $10 and put it in yourself.

I don't know if this will help, but I had a very similar problem with a DV6700. Pressing on the power coverplate used to get the laptop to boot up. Upon investigation, it turned out to be the ribbon cable from the switch to the board. This is very badly routed and over time, pressure damaged the inner wires. Got a new one from ebay at the cost of £2.00 and I was back up and running in no time.

The DV series of laptops did start to fail and HP were aware of it but did nothing after the warranty was over, common failures were the wireless card port, the speakers and the gFX chip, usually caused by oerheating

Pull the power cord out and press the power button on the PC to drain the power for 10 seconds. Then plug the power cord back in and turn the computer on. If still does not work, then the power supply may be blown out and needs replacement.

You can find a replacement motherboard by searching on with the motherboard's model number. This could be found under the RAM.

Pc will not start, power button shows 3 blinking lights when pressed. but nothing else happens

i think bios is not booting up....this problem may be solved by removing the power cable and battery from computer, wait for 3 minutes and put the battery back.... now turn on only with battery power.... if it got booted, it will ask you to configure the bios.... once you are done with that your computer will work as a normal one....
if it doesnt bootup, then take it to an authorized service center and check it out....

My hp pavilion a1224n desktop pc will not power up. The power supppy does show a green light on the back but the pc does nothing when I push the power button

I don't know if you tried this, but there should be an on off switch on back of your desktop, which is the switch to the power supply. If you haven't tried it yet, check and see if the switch button on back is in the on or off position. If you are not sure, then press the switch in the opposite direction, and then press the power button and see what happens.
