No steam reaches iron. Water boils and iron gets hot but no steam gets from the tank to the iron.

I have split the iron, checked the switch (electrical) it seems fine. Turned iron back on and operated the microswitch manually still no action. The tubing from the steam tank does not get warm so it would appear that the problem stems from something blocking the flow of steam from the tank. The tubing is intact and no leaks are apparent at the connection to the iron. Got me scratching my head on this one.

Both the iron and the steam tank seem to heat properly. I have verified that it is producing steam by backing off the fill cap slightly and steam escapes. It is very confusing as all the elements seem to be working properly, just no steam passes up the hose to the iron.

  • Anonymous Nov 25, 2010

I have tested the micro switch and it is working, that is why I tried it manually with the iron energized. I thought possibly the switch was not making contact with the micro switch. What does the micro switch operate? It there an internal valve in the iron that is electronically opened? I could not see anything in the iron base that looked like a solenoid valve or similar.

Traced the problem to the solenoid switch on top of the tank. Power is getting to the coil but the valve is not opening. Must be frozen, will remove and see if I can free it.

The most likely cause is that calcuim or hard water build up has clogged the passage way for the steam try running CLR or a cleaner like it to clear the passage.

It is most likely something within the iron,a sensor or the steam button itself. There should be only about 3 screws holding the iron together. The back or the top or bottom ma have them hidden.Different makers do it different ways so I can't say much more than that.Sometimes the screw will be hidden by a plastic cover for appearance. It should pry off with something thin rather easily. Some have the iron part open up/swing from the plastic base. You just have to kind of look for screws, pry and pull apart as gently as possible. That's really how I have learned some items too.To test the switch,it may simply be a mechanical connection which opens a valve, somewhat similar to turning on a faucet but not exactly.Check the area for cracks or broken press button. The button should almost fall out if you get it separated. If it is an electrical connection to activate the steam, let me know. Please do not approve/disapprove this yet as it will cut off our link.If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.Greg

The heat element for the steam section may simply be bad.Does the iron heat normal?I assume it does from your description.

  • Anonymous Nov 25, 2010

About all that is left is the switch. If you can bypass it any way safely,I bet it would work.Do you have a test light or meter to check the switch?

Should the cable from the machine to iron get hot

Hi,
If the iron is a steam-iron with a steam tank in the base-unit, then steam is carried up the connecting pipe & it will get hot in normal use.
If you put water into the iron itself, then there is only an electric cable connecting the base & it should never, ever get hot. A little bit warm maybe, but never hot.
Best of luck.

The iron is still working but the water not hot

There is most likely a build-up of minerals around the steam holes. Minerals are in ordinary tap water. The coat the heating surfaces, act like an insulator and prevent iron from getting hot. Clean the hot plate with a fine needle or other fine object and then put in a mixture of vinegar and water and let it steam out. To prevent future mineral build-up, use half distilled water and half tap water. If you can't get distilled water, use ordinary drinking water you can buy from your supermarket (it also cheaper). Don't use 'all' distilled water as it boils (steams) at higher temperature and could ruin your iron. Good luck.

Floor steamer not getting hot

follow this steps and fix it.
GOD BLESS YOU
Clean an iron:
  1. Unplug the iron and make sure it is cool before cleaning.
  2. Use a toothpick or pipe cleaner to remove buildup in the steam vents, making sure the debris doesn't fall into the vents.
  3. Use a fine sewing needle to carefully clean the spray nozzle of mineral deposits.
  4. To flush sediment from a steam iron, pour 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar into the water tank. Place the iron on a rack over a broiling pan and set the iron to steam until the tank runs dry. Repeat if necessary. Or follow the instructions for using a commercial iron cleaner.
Service the steam and spray mechanism:
  1. Unplug the iron.
  2. Use a fine sewing needle to unclog the steam valve assembly. Also, check the valve spring and replace it if it is broken or has lost tension.
  3. If the spray pump is accessible, remove it and check for leaks by placing the spray tube in water and squirting the pump. Clean or replace as needed.
Clean a metal soleplate:
  1. Unplug the iron.
  2. Use a sponge and commercial soleplate cleaner or baking soda and water to remove dirt buildup on the soleplate. Rinse well with water and dry. Don't use harsh abrasives or immerse an electric iron in water.
  3. Use very fine steel wool (0000) or an emery cloth to remove scratches and burns on the soleplate, then clean the soleplate.

My rowenta steamer is not producing steam but tubing getting hot when I turn on steamer. Suggestions?

see this causes and fix it. God bless you

If the iron heats but steams improperly, inspect the soleplate and clean the vents (see below) and flush sediment out of the steam chamber .

If the iron produces too much or too little heat, test the electrical cord . Also test and, if needed, adjust calibration of the thermostat .

If the iron does not spray properly, inspect and clean the nozzle.

If the iron leaks or spits, clean the steam vents, nozzle, and tank.

If the iron sticks to fabric, clean or repair the soleplate. If the iron stains fabric, clean the soleplate, clean the tank with a commercial cleaner, and use distilled or filtered water.

Water leaks out when tank is more than 1/3 full after pushing the shot-of-steam buttom

Most instructions state that iron must be at the hottest position to "boil the water." If you need a cool iron, turn steam off, and just sprinkle cool water on fabric.

I cant get it to steam

I assume that the iron is getting hot??

1. Could be it's not getting hot enough?(Thermostat could be set too low)
2. The pipe into the tank is blocked? (try pouring a little boiling water CAREFULLY into the iron filler hole and try that)
3. The outlet jets could be totally blocked? (Buy a descaling kit from Wallmart or similar)

Failing that you may have to buy a new one. Wallmart or similar have cheap electrical appliances

My husband threw away the opereating instructions for our iron.

SELF CLEANINGIt is important to “Self Clean” the iron at least every two weeksto remove scale, calcium, etc. The harder the water, the more often the iron should be self cleaned.1. Set the variable steam control dial to any steam position.2. Fill the water tank up to the “MAX” level.3. Stand the iron on its heel. Plug the iron into the electrical outlet.4.Press the electronic temperature control button until you get the “MAX” temperature setting on the display panel and wait until the iron heats up and temperature setting light stops flashing.5. Turn the variable steam control dial all the way to the right to the self-cleaning position and hold the iron horizontally over the sink (Fig. 8).6. Boiling water and steam will now be ejected from the holes in the soleplate. The impurities and scale are washed away with it. 7. Move the iron back and forth as this happens.8. If there is any water left in the water tank after the iron stops steaming, just empty the remaining water in a sink following the instructions for emptying the iron. 9.Turn the variable steam control dial to the “0” position when the water tank is empty.10.Place the iron back upright on its heel to cool down before storing.

Instructions for use DiLonghi StiroMeglio compact iron (steam boiler Iron)

Is a long story but i make short.Don`t be afraid to leave your iron on.Is common to water tank iron to get working in more then 5-10 minutes. That machine are really safe since they do have more then 1 thermostat to control the water pressure.
How they work is pretty easy. The boil the water to a certan temperature and you know after certan F. the water become steam generatin pressure and steam. The thermostat control the heater and the electroswitch release the steam

If your in not making any steam after 5-10 minutes make sure you hear the electroswitch working.Sometimes they get cloght and even if the boil is under the pressure you can not get any steam at all
Good Luck
