Canon Pixma IP4300 printing problem

Colour printing has suddenly deteriorated, particularly when using non-ordinary paper. On ordinary paper there is slight streaking but colours are more or less OK.
BUT when non-ordinary paper is used - inkjet colour or photographic etc -less or no streaking - but colours go peculiar, becoming much more orange.
I have tried cleaning and deep cleaning and replacing cartridges, but that has not made any real difference. Is it a software problem? BUt I have tried deinstalling and reinstalling the driver - no difference.

Same cartidges are used for all papers in this printer, and were working perfectly OK for all papers a week or two ago. If I stick to ordinary paper setting, colour is more or less OK for higher quality paper. But if I change the paper setting - or even move to high quality printing on ordinary paper - the colour goes peculiar.

  • Alexyxx Jun 23, 2008

I certainly have tried both different settings and different papers - inkjet colour and glossy photo paper, in one case resupting in blue going to pink. But so far the only way to get the colours more or less right is to use standard quality printing setting to standard white paper setting - then it prints more or less OK to all types of matte paper ( but not at all well for glossy photo paper)
The printer is a bit more than one year old. Your suggestion of a problem with the print head sounds possible. though I would guess in the controlling software rather than the actual head? Can the head be replaced for less than the cost of a new printer?

  • Alexyxx Jun 23, 2008

Why has the earlier and better solution proposal disappeared? where is it? how can I get back to it? should there not be a complete thread available? Anyway, best solution so far appears to be to replace the printhead, so questions are is this easy to do at home? where can one get the part? will it cost more than buying a new printer?

  • Alexyxx Jun 23, 2008

Yes, more or less, though did not address the question of whether I would be able to do at home in the first place.

Hi, your head nozzle is damaged or require thorough cleaning. that may be the reason it doesnt give a high resolution print. go for an expert cleaning, and if it doesnt work, no other choice, you will have to purchase a new head. now a days going for a new printer is advisable rather than purchasing a new canon head, becoz head will take 3/4th of the new printer cost.

hi, first of all thank you very much for accepting the solution.

on cleaning the head, we need solutions like iso-propyl or 2- propanol, cotton or yellow cloth and some expertise for doing the work. dip the cotton lightly in the solution and try rub the nozzle lightley in one direction and next in the opposite till all the clogged ink on the nozzle get dissolved. take care not to give excessive pressure. but more or less head may get more damaged if done in a wrong way. once again thank u for the support

Sounds like its a color management issue. check canon`s website for any updated icc profile. What application are you printing from? and what operating system are you printing from?

if canon doesn`t have any icc profiles to provide, check your printer settings particularly the color management section.

try also checking the alignment of the head or it could also be because of incorrect insertion of the paper.

    Thanks!

It is a problem with print heads, you may need to replace them, print heads are located underneath cartridges.

The part is not expensive you can order it here for $10 or so.
If the printer is less than 12 months old you can have it replaced it for free from Canon.

Also on your computer - in print preferences try changeing the paper and quality setting and do a few tests to see if it improves.

How old is this printer? it may be a problem in the printer head controlling the cartridges and releaseing incorrect amounts of ink.

  • Ekse Jun 23, 2008

You can also use this page

I'm not sure how to get at it using MAC software, but you need to get into the printer preferences.

I'm running Linux, which has some similarities, and to get at my printer preferences I click on System - Admin - Printing - RMB on the required printer and select Properties.

You may also be able to get at it via your programmes folder.

All you have to do is change the paper size from us letter to A4 or the particular size you require.

In switching from plain paper to glossy photo the output is almost completely magenta. I've changed carts and on regular paper it looks okay . I've deep cleaned with no improvement This is a Canon ip4300

Find the printer properties menu and check the settings for glossy paper. You may have to set the colour controls to manual when using some types of photo papers.

"Paper Output Slot Jammed" Canon Pixma iP4300

These printers are FULL of very sensitive sensors, and chances are that one of them may have a small piece of paper blocking them. If you can get the covers off by finding the "Triangle" arrow markers, you can inspect all these sensors.

Good luck!!!

Assuming that your printer drivers have been loaded correctly to your computer it is likely that the ink cartidges are the cause of the problem. They are either dirty or low on ink (a particular colour if you have multiple cartridges). Have you tried someone else's printer perhaps?
