Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

AC not cooling

I have a brand new AC and it "works," but it doesn't cool. I looked at the troubleshooting in the manual and it doesn't seem like anything would apply since it is brand new. Thanks.

On any new appliance, if you get it home and it doesn't work:
1. Read the user's manual, (That's a good boy!)
2. Immediately return it to the selling dealer.
3. Contact a factory authorized servicer. If you can't locate 1 then contact us and let us find 1 in your area.
3a. DO NOT attempt to service the unit!!! All new appliances come with a factory warranty and any unauthorized work on the unit will void the warranty.
Tip: Always provide the complete information provided on the manufacturers product information data tag, located on the unit, and not in the user’s manual. This will help you acquire a more accurate and expeditious response to your complaint.

Your question "Should I wait before starting the unit, after bringing it from the store?" may be the answer to the problem. If the unit was turned on it's side or back when you brought it home in your car? Then yes. that is the problem. When AC Units, Dehumidifiers, etc are turned on their side or back, the refrigerant gas and the lubricating oil runs out of the compressor. It should not be operated, unit it's been setting upright for 6 to 8 hours. This allows all the fluids to run back into place.

If the above is the case. Turn the unit Off and unplug it for at least 6 hours. Hopefully, all the fluids will return to where they are supposed to be.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

AIR DOES NOT SEEM TO BE COOL ENOUGH LAST YEAR HAD SERVICE COME AND PUT FREEON IN

hi,
If the the AC doesn't get the cooling then the main reason will lack of freon gas.
Is the fan works perfectly. Also check the fan is it working perfectly. If the fan is ok then you have to refill the freon gas again.
ok

My air conditioner stops cooling. Occasionally, it will just function on fan mode even though I confirm that it is on cool mode. Warm air comes out even on the absolute coldest setting. I have to turn it...

If after reset the A/C cools then the fault seems related to the thermostat or the cut off pressure switch or load cut off.
However is there is no cooling at all the compressor and the gas pressure- check for leak if gas is absent.- must be checked .
If compressor is suspect you must check the estimate and decide whether it seems better to scrap and buy a new one.

I can't seem to get the A/C to work. I'm thinking of getting a hose as a last resort. It seems to alternate blowing cool air, then hot air after a few minutes. There's also a tendency for the a/c to...

The symtoms you describe appear to indicate that the AC might be low on the freon charge. Usually blowing cold and then hot is the first sign that the unit is low on refridgerant and is working hard to keep cooling.

Further, the tripping of the breakers/electric power also indicates that the unit is working hard to cool and as a result is running hot and is causing the power to trip off. If you can get a AC tech to recharge the unit, you should be all set.

Here's a link to a site with the owners manual and a troubleshooting guide for your unit. You can access it for free.

My window AC unitl has been clicking

Hi,

This seems to be an issue with compressor. Check. Usually there is 5 years warranty on it. Replaced if under warranty. It's better to purchase a new one than repairing the one with bad compressor.

There is a nice article :-

Thanks.

Troubleshooting airconditioners

CLEAN IT
take the case off.
look at all the filth in the back fins.
get that out without puncturing anything
or cutting your fingers, or breaking the fan, etc.

Use a hose and MIST spray.. a hard spray will bend the fins
Use 2 dull hacksw blades to straighten fins if many squashed.

Bonus: find the oil hole caps on motor, open, add oil (10w30 fine)
Reassemble.

Of course this wont work for punctured units, dead motors, compressors, etc.. but filt is your #1 A/C killer.

Get cleaning! Do it once a year, before it gets hot.
