I would look up drivers from the manufacture of the HDD, or should it be plug and play where nothing really needs to be installed?

Mac won't recognize usb device

If your trying to connect a device via usb to your computer and it isn't being recognized; The best thing to do is go the manufacture's website of the device, look under download or support tab and download the latest version of the driver

The driver is what lets the computer recognize the device.

Download the driver, then double-click on the file so it will install itself on your computer. Once the driver is installed, restart pc, turn on your device and finally connect your cable

Usb device not recognize

You mentioned that you uninstalled the unknown device from the Device manager. If you uninstall it then connected your usb flash drive you will see an error again on your device manager. This means that the driver for your usb port is not properly installed.

To install it, visit dell website, look for the model of your machine and locate the driver, download it then install from your machine.

Cannot get my USB memory stick to install on XP

I have a sandisk cruzer, titanium 512mb. Model: SDCZ3 512 I have used this to store massive amounts of data that I frequently need to access. Recently, when I plugged the device into my computer's USB, I received the following message: "USB Device Not Recognized" After double clicking on this message, I got the USB Root Hub. The last item on the tree stated: "Unknown Device." I double-clicked on the unknown device, and in the Device Status box, received the following message: "No Drivers installed for this device. If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter." I attempted to troubleshoot, but the device remains unrecognized. How can I access the data I have stored on this device? I have even tried to install the drivers automatically, but it would not istall succesfully.
