Question about IBM NETVISTA M42 - P4 2.4GHZ/512KB 256MB 40GB 48XCD DESKTOP(4X3) SOUNDMAX 845G ENET (830342S08)

1 Answer

No sound but it beeps

I have lost all sound from computer except for a beep. I updated my realtec driver, but it doesn't work.

I had soundmax that was deleted and I really don't know which problem is causing the sound loss.

Obviously the speakers still work because of the error beep. The little speaker icon on my lower toolbar is gone as well.

How do I fix this problem

Memory upgrade on gx280 beeps on boot but doesn't start. memory beeps 1 234 5 6

When your computer emits beeps when you power on the computer, it's usually means that you have a memory issue. Try re-seating the memory modules and power on the computer. If you have more the one module, insert one at a time and power on the computer. The other issue is if that model supports 4 gig memory.

I have a Dell XPS 600 desktop computer. I cannot get the power to stay on. None of the diagnostic lights light up. I have checked all of the connections and everything is secure.

Here's what to try: Disconnect everything from the motherboard except the CPU and memory. You may leave the video connected to see what, if any, error message you might get.
You didn't say if you got any beeps on startup. They can tell you what might be the problem.
If this doesn't work, remove the memory modules. The power should stay on but you'll probably get either a steady beep or a bunch of little beeps. (I don't have the Dell error codes close at hand at the moment).
If this doesn't work, you have narrowed the problem to one of three things: The CPU, the motherboard, or the power supply.
You didn't mention just what happens when you turn it on--just that it won't stay on. Error messages are helpful if you get any on the screen as are any beep tones.

I have an HP Pavillion m9600t with Windows 7. Sometimes when i try to play games the sound crackles and progressively gets worse until the computer freezes. Any thoughts?

This seems to be a problem more with Realtec onboard sound than with a stand alone soundcard. You can try either updating the Realtec driver or using the generic windows driver and forget using the realtec functions. But with my computer the only true fix was to disable onboard sound and install a soundcard. Hope this helps.
