This is a system failure. The only thing a general user can try is to unplug the system, and replug all the cords in again (including video) this is to make sure it is not a general cable failure. it very well could be the disc themselves, some computers like i certain kind better, my husbands only likes sony dics, wont burn on anything else, try that it might solve the problem...shia

Generally, such an error indicates the hard drive has had a severe failure and needs to be replaced.

If a portable, you can try reseating the drive. If a desktop, you can reseat the cables.

Check in the system BIOS, see if the hard drive is identified by size/model, if it is, then you can try running diagnostics on the drive to see if you can get a failure code.

if diagnostics pass, you can try booting to your Windows CD, and run tools like CHKDSK and BOOTCFG /rebuild to fix the file system.

But you are getting a BIOS level error from what you describe and that usually means replacing the hard drive.
