Question about Tascam 2488 Portastudio Multitrack Recorder System
Hey.. can you tell me how did you do the formatation of the HDD? I couldn't any place in the internet about this procedure... Thanks a lot!!!
Tascam 2488You can try initializing the unit but that will erase anything on the hard drive. To do that hold down the Quick routing, Shift, Send and Shutdown buttons while turning on the unit. The unit should ask "Initialize HD, are you sure?".
Press the Yes/Enter button.
Although, when I tried this on my own machine it didn't ask 'Are you Sure?', but the initialize procedure worked.
My 2488 is showing software version 1.03, so if your system is older, it might be worth updating.

Formatting of the hard drive is outlined on page 66 of the 2488 manual (assuming this is the old grey 2488 and not the newer blue MkII).
In case you don't have the manual handy, you can either format the entire drive (excluding the fat partition) or just one of the partitions. There is also another option to refrormat the fat partition.
To format the drive, (and create new partitions), go to the 'disk' menu, highlight 'format' and press 'enter'. You'll be asked to specify the new partition size (all partitions will be the size you choose). The press 'enter' again to proceed with the format. A new blank song will be created on each partition. Do not power off the 2488 while the format is in progress.
To format a single partition, from the 'disk' menu choose 'reform' and press 'enter'. You then choose (by highlighting) which partition you want to format and press 'enter' to format. You'll get the warning/confirm message and press 'enter' again to proceed.
The fat partition (visible via usb from a PC) can be formatted also. To do this select 'fat reform' from the disk menu and press 'enter' and then 'enter' again at the warning.
irvingsr3 - I'm not sure if resetting the unit is the easiest way to fix your problem. You might be able to perform a redo, or you might be able to just go and start a new song which will reset most of the control settings to their defaults. When you hit 'undo' it may have rolled back some of your input assignments or tracks which were armed for recording and that could explain why you can't seem to record now.
