I hit the r key when it boots up,, and sometimes it will say mouse not detected. and sometimes it will just boot into bios. what can i do to fix this problem.? it's an emachine T3830

now it still boots into bios,, but it's trying to flash to a different screen b 4 the bios screen appears,, i have went into bios and set the cd rom as first boot device,, and disabled the 2nd boot the 3rd and 4th and so on,, can someone help me with how to set the bios the right way for the eMachine T3830 so that i can get the win xp instalation cd to boot and install windows on it,, someone told me to partition the hard drive and then it would boot,, how do i do this,, is there a certain button i need to push when the thing boots up to stop it from going into bios.

Try this: boot into the bios, set the boot order to cd rom first, hard drive 2nd and either one to 3rd. Hit F10 to save changes & exit. Put in your Windows cd. It should come up to a screen that says "Hit any key to boot to cd", do that. Set up should start. If not go back into the bios boot order option and set 1st, 2nd and 3rd boot device option to your "CD Rom" drive. If this works after your installation just remember to go back into the bios and change boot order to CD Rom 1st; Hard Drive 2nd and any to 3rd. You see if there is not disk in the CD Rom when system boots it will automatically search for 2nd boot drive which will be your Hard Drive. The benifit of leaving 1st boot option as CD Rom is in case you need to boot from a CD again and can't get into the bios (which happens alot) the cd option will always be first.
I know you said you disabled other 2 boot options, you can also try taking out the cmos battery to reset back to defaults.
The last to try which 9 out of 10 times has worked for me is to use another cd rom. Some just don't have what is needed to be a bootable drive. Actually, I would try changing Rom drive first.
Good luck.

Is your hard drive being detected in the bios?

Maybe your jumpers are set wrong on hdd.

After checking hard drive jumpers and (important) make sure it is set as master & using an ide ribbon to connect hard drive to mother board.

If bios recognizes your hdd then try another cd rom. You don't have to install the rom just use the connections from the old one, connect to the other one and test it outside of the case. It's easier troubleshooting that way.

Try telling it to boot the CD instead of the disk for now, since you need to install from that...or perhaps a newer OS.

I have a emachine w4605. i need the wireless adapter driver. i put the hard drive from my old compaq presario v2555us in it, does that have anything to do with this?

Go to Go down to line 5 to Home[] and click on it, go to support and click top right for driver downloads. To answer question using a different hard drive will make the difference, make sure the old hardware has been erased and a fresh install put in it's place.

Machine comes on but will not load windows

hard drive failure, possibly due to a virus, go buy a new harddrive and install windows on it and be careful, you can re-route your old harddrive by switching the pins to slave and then connecting it to the pc while off and unplugged after installing new hard drive and windows. then you can access your photos and such on the old drive before opening the old drive in windows scan the whole drive with a virus software.

Our home computer recently stopped working. When turned on, the on light doesn't light up and the computer doesn't start, but the fan/motor runs. Is there any way to fix this? And if so, how? Thanks in...

Do you at least get a black and white message with start windows normally hilighted.Did you get lightning in the area?We had an emachine and it basically quit on us one day, kind of sounds like what you have.If you are sure the monitor is fine and you do not get anything to come up,your hard drive is likely fried. You can just replace the hard drive too.If you do get a screen with a C: showing you can try some basic commands such as when the C: is showing, type next to it,it's either ip config or mp config(I forget which)but one of them will get some stuff going on at least and would be a good sign.
Like I said,if you can't get either of the first 2 to show up (run windows normally or a C:)sorry to say but it's time to shop for a computer. If you decide to throw out the old one,I would take off the side, remove the hard drive and smash it with a hammer. It is pretty easy to do but if you are unsure about which piece is the hard drive, call a couple shops, someone is always willing to give free help for easy things to attract business. Also, keep the rest of the components(keyboard, mouse, monitor). They are good for backup if anything ever happens. If you do not have an optical mouse, buy one if it is not with the new one.Personally,I will never buy an emachine again.Norton antivirus seems better than Mcafee.Internet providers usually have their own available and is just as good.Good luck! Greg If you do buy a new one and have questions, feel free to contact me for anything.

Turn on Emachine with Windows Vista, only black screen comes up with boot SOMETHING DOES NOTHING ELSE,at bottom of screen say's Boot Manager missing.

At boot up try pressing F8. to get to a menu that asks if you want to use safe mode, etc. If you can get that menu click safe mode then try to solve the problem when you are back on. If you cant get that menu you might have to reformat your hard drive. Which means lose everything. Its probably a hardware issue. Which if you dont want to reformat you could take it to a repair shop and they will replace the part that has fried.

Your problem would not be with a battery, but the power supply. Try plugging into a different outlet just to make sure, but sounds like you may need a new power supply.

Emachine boots to bios with a new hard drive installed

Go inside to your BIOS menu then set the BOOT sequence to CD as the first boot so when your PC with the operating system installation disk inside it will load the installation wizard.
Good luck hope that helps........
