Question about E-Machines eMachines T3830 PC Desktop
My pc was doing this,,,,
my old hard drive on my emachine fried, due to electrical storm, so i went and bought a new western digital hard drive and took the old one out of it and installed the new one. it's an 80 gb hd western digital. the computer won't boot to nothing but bios. i have the emachine recovery cd and operating system on the cd too. it won't boot into the boot method to install windows,, it just keeps going into the bios. when i exit the bios, it say turn off power and reinstall the jumper in normal mode.
I hit the r key when it boots up,, and sometimes it will say mouse not detected. and sometimes it will just boot into bios. what can i do to fix this problem.? it's an emachine T3830
now it still boots into bios,, but it's trying to flash to a different screen b 4 the bios screen appears,, i have went into bios and set the cd rom as first boot device,, and disabled the 2nd boot the 3rd and 4th and so on,, can someone help me with how to set the bios the right way for the eMachine T3830 so that i can get the win xp instalation cd to boot and install windows on it,, someone told me to partition the hard drive and then it would boot,, how do i do this,, is there a certain button i need to push when the thing boots up to stop it from going into bios.
hope someone can help me, tks, Nikki
Try this: boot into the bios, set the boot order to cd rom first, hard drive 2nd and either one to 3rd. Hit F10 to save changes & exit. Put in your Windows cd. It should come up to a screen that says "Hit any key to boot to cd", do that. Set up should start. If not go back into the bios boot order option and set 1st, 2nd and 3rd boot device option to your "CD Rom" drive. If this works after your installation just remember to go back into the bios and change boot order to CD Rom 1st; Hard Drive 2nd and any to 3rd. You see if there is not disk in the CD Rom when system boots it will automatically search for 2nd boot drive which will be your Hard Drive. The benifit of leaving 1st boot option as CD Rom is in case you need to boot from a CD again and can't get into the bios (which happens alot) the cd option will always be first.
I know you said you disabled other 2 boot options, you can also try taking out the cmos battery to reset back to defaults.
The last to try which 9 out of 10 times has worked for me is to use another cd rom. Some just don't have what is needed to be a bootable drive. Actually, I would try changing Rom drive first.

Try telling it to boot the CD instead of the disk for now, since you need to install from that...or perhaps a newer OS.
