Question about Kenmore 73503 Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Freezer problem (icing behind cover inside of freezer)

Kenmore 73503 Stainless Elite Trio (freezer bottom) 4-5 years old
Over a period of a month, large amounts of ice forms over condenser grill and freezer fan.  Needs defrosting once a month.
Freezer during this period very wet with like **** frost over all items inside.
Seal is good and checked.
Fridge above okay.
Have had it serviced once, but problem still the same.  Not going back to them again.
Have read your links, can you pin point the problem?
Thanks for your time
Paul

Several things to check. Refrigerator needs to be put in manual defrost mode, then check defrost heater and defrost thermostat.

It could need refrigerant...I'd try to possibly get a quote on that.

BUT FIRST,
I'd ensure the coils were cleaned of all dust and dirt...either by vacuum or blow it with compressed air.
I'd also check to make sure the light goes out when the door is closed. Sounds crazy but I had a bad switch once that allowed the bulb to stay on constantly...makes everything warm.

There are a lot of things that could be the source of the problem... is there no cooling at all going on in the freezer? Is the back wall of the freezer cold? It could be anything from a fan, to the compressor, to the control board... you need a technician.

I would get on the phone with Sears, and explain the continuing problems you have been having, and they may agree to cover service.
