First you will need a router, Second, you can either run a cable from the router to the XBOX or you can get the XBOX wireless adapter, and the adapter should detect the router almost as soon as you plug it in to the XBOX, and voila! your connected!!

Or you can use the Windows Media Center Extender found on the XBOX 360.

My router was hit by lighting. I replaced the router. The Xbox works fine, but I can longer play online. I replaced ther cable also. I think lighting may have damage the ethernet connection on the xbox

Lighting may have damaged the ethernet connection on the xbox. Take can connect your computer to the same lan port connection that you are connecting the xbox to and see if you can get on line. If so you may be able to save the xbox if you go wireless and install the wireless adaptor.

Why does my xbox lag i got wireless router and modem but it started lagging 3 months ago for no apparent reason, no computer just laptop and that works fine upstairs in the same room as x box

There could be a trojan in one of the pc's that is leaking into the xbox making it run bad. Believe it or not, it was happening to our xbox. 3 pc's on one modem wireless, all were fine but one and the xbox 360 was direct into the modem via ethernet. We'd take my sons pc off line and the xbox would work great. Put the pc back online (connected to wireless) and the connection on xbox was back to awful.

Check and see if that's the problem.

I cannot connect to xbox live. I've called numerous times to microsoft with no results. I've called my router company to open gaming ports, which i did and still nothing. Ive gotten a new xbox, and it...

if you are using a router then you will have to set the connection up your main line to allow the connection to be made. if you are direct connecting with the modem to the xbox and its still not connecting then the xbox live server is down. I used to run into not connecting to xbox live alot more through using my router because my router was old and good gaming on live requires a good gaming router. check to see if your computer is acknowlledging your router, And if it is then, Make sure your router is up to date. sounds like a router issue. post back with any more help if its needed :-)

If you have a cd burner on your computer you can follow this link
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/systemupdates.htm and it gives you full instructions on how to burn the disk and update your xbox. If that does not help with connecting try going to the system tab of your dashboard and run the initial setup. Dont worry you wont lose all your downloads and profiles, it just changes all settings back to the default.

Cant connect online

The way that i found to connect was to use a router, and connect it through that. it sets everything up itself.

Xbox to compter

Path #1:

if you want to play online, with other people i am assuming? then what you would want is xbox live. you do have to setup a stable internet connection in order to connect to the internet*. and also you do have to pay a membership fee in order to stay in xbox live.

* and if you want to connect xbox live, you need a cable or dsl connection, either you need an ethernet cable or a pre-tuned wireless usb that is made only for the xbox 360. and also, you would need a cable/dsl company that is accepted by xbox live. and then go to the xbox 360 dashboard, then, click "join membership",

Path #2:

setup an ethernet connection either directly, or with a router/hub, then go the system settings, and click, "computers" and then click connect. but this path way is only to create a connection to the computer.

If you go to your computer hold down the windows key and hit the and hit the R key at the same time.

This will bring up a black window, type in ipconfig/all,this will give you lots of details about your network setup, what we are looking for is the DNS ip's, they should be there under DNS Servers, use the addresses for your DNS servers.
