Download the software (drivers and other software for your model of Samsung phone) from Samsung, install them; probably suffer through a reboot, and then you can connect the lead and expect things to happen. Alternately you can just connect it and have Microsoft Update try to do all that, but it will save some effort if you spend the time checking out Samsung's site and take notes on what utilities are around for your phone.
