Re: icemaker is not working
refrigerator has a duel water valve, one for the ice-maker and one
for the water dispenser (if equipped). The valve that
the ice-maker relies on may be bad, or it could be the ice-maker itself. Another thing that could cause it would be
the temperatures in the freezer. The ice-maker will not
call for water until it reaches under 15 degrees. In addition, check
the water tube behind the ice-maker to make sure it is not frozen, blocking
more water from entering. The water does not go to the ice-maker or
thru the filter unless the ice-maker turns on the water valve.

Make sure the arm is DOWN. If up, it is signalling the icemaker that the bin is full - and NOT to make any more ice.
If you have water service at the fridge - has it failed too? If it doesn't work - look at the water supply line to the fridge. It may be valved off (under sink), crushed, clogged, etc. Once that is working allow time for the icemaker to make ice.
If still no ice - it may be the solenoid or wiring from the icemaker that allows the tray to be filled. In this case, you'll need tools, testers and how to read schematics. If these are not available - you should call an appliance repair shop. Otherwise, you may end up replacing perfectly good parts and still not be able to get it working.
Start by unplugging fridge. Take 1/4 inch nut drive ( sometimes phillips ) remove bottom screw from under ice maker. Next loosen top to screws mostly out. The screws are located in brackets near the ice tray behind the front cover. Ice maker has brakets that the top screws slide into. Lift the icemaker up and out off the screws. Next disconnect the quick connect that is on the back wall of the freezer. Some models are hard wired into the icebox. If this is like yours than disconnect the quick connect from the icemaker itself. Take icemaker out of freezer and connect quick connect into or from new ice maker. Slide the new icemaker onto screws and into place. Screw bottom screw in and than tighten the top two screws. Place ice maker arm down so it can make ice. Give it 24 hours to cycle before it starts producing ice. Most of the time icemaker starts making ice within a couple hours. Plug in fridge.
order a new icemaker, about 100.00 from parts company, heat element not working to help release ice. Its an easy fix and will save you a service call for 150 additional bucks. Its a matter of taking out old one. First turn off water valve to fridge. Take out old icemaker and remove electrical supply, just a squeeze and the clip should come out. Place new electrical connection, connect water supply line, turn on water line to fridge fridge, the compartment should fill and then ice in about an hour or 90 min.
I had a Whirlpool Model GD5SHAXNS in which the icemaker quit working about the same time (3 years old). I had water out the dispenser, I found that it was the icemaker itself failed not calling for water to fill it. I replaced it with a icemaker on-line for about $100 and problem fixed. I have been told his is a common problem with the icemaker in this model ref.
Chances are the fill valve at the bottom back of the refrigerator is clogged or failed. This valve opens to allow water to fill into the icemaker. It could also be that the fill switch in the icemaker has failed, or depending on type of icemaker, the ice level bar is flipped up, or the mold heater sensor has failed.
Please provide the refrigerator P/N for more information.
verify the water supply to the valve first, second verify valve to icemaker works(unit has dual valve at rear bottom of fridge, switch plugs, then press water dispenser and see if icemaker fill with water ) if fills icemaker is bad , if not valve is bad. replace one or the other.
No it should take about 24 hrs to get a full bin of ice. The most common problems with this style icemaker is the fill tube freezes which they have a replacement heated fill tube or the board on your freezer wall that pass a light through your ice bin to tell if its full or not stops working
