Asolutely , capacitors are what we call in the buisness ,starter motors, theese cylinders hold the juice to start the motor in motion ,,do yourself a favor ! don,t buy this part from a garage door supplier because they will get you for 20-30 bucks , Instead go to any good electronics store , and i don,t mean Radio Shack, You want to go to a store that carries electronic parts such as diodes and computer coards and led lights because theese stores also carry capacitors and lots of them , I pay at my local electronics store about 7 bucks and as long as the ratings the same it will worf fine also if the rating is a little higher it also will work , bring your old capacitor with you so they can match it , I go to a place in pompton plains,n.j. called Wayne Electronics they might even be able to ship it to you in the mail if you don,t live around the area , well good luck and i hope i was able to answer your question, Thank you for the oppurtunity to help you , Sincerely Glenn Mayer

Motor not working.

You need to find out what is causing the capacitor to short and "blow up or smoke". Then you will have to replace the capacitor again or the motor will never start up. Sounds like you either have a dead short or you bought a faulty Capacitor. Not uncommon for a 220+ volt Capacitor to be bad right from the factory. I replaced two Capacitors before I had a quality one, but after I replaced it twice I have had no more problems. Make sure to grease the motor through the grease fitting on it. The life of your motor depends on it.

Condensor fan fuse keeps blowing motors and boards have been changed but same result in few days

Dear friend, without knowing exact problem changing parts is not advisable. With your statement I could understand that condenser coil full of dirty- clean it. And then check capacitor for compressor by reading amps. If amps gradually increase capacitor to be replaced. And also wiring for not short circuited.

No power to microwave. I replaced the main fuse. it sparked and blew the new fuse. My meter shows a short (or at least continuity) from the appliance side of the fuse (removed) to the neutral (white) wire...

Look for the surge protector being short which is in the front end after the fuse. If so disconnect and check for the shorrt to change. repeat the same for the power supply to show a release of the short.
If the transformer, main capacitor is shorrt removve and check or replace.
Since the short is in the primary end you can get this sorted out easily as a short in the magnetron might not be worth.
So use the continutiy meter to disable one by one these compenents to confirm.

Switch capacitor short circuit. Makita jigsaw

This capacitor is only used for RF suppression... really IF it is shorted, then simply remove it. It should work fine without. just be noisy around radios etc. But if you want to replace it Radio Shack, or Radio Spares, should have one.

Switching Capacitor to another car

This is a specialized capacitor device. This device is designed to hold and discharge a very high amount of electrical current in a very short time to an audio amplifier as needed during a demand. As with that said, safety is a big issue with any attempt to discharge or transport these devices. That stored current packs a punch if you attempt to dead short it out (not advised, makes huge sparks, could cause damage or injury). You should consult your owners manual concerning your specific equipment. but since you are dealing with only 12-15 volts of electricity, you can just simply easily move it to your new vehicle with no problem, just DO NOT Short it out, or touch the terminals with wet hands when you move and reinstall it. :D

Whe I push the wall mounted button the opener just hums

Sound like the "outfit" that worked on your operator did not change the bottom bushing on your motor mounting plate. Some "outfits" only change the white gear #41A2817 and some change the gear shaft assy. #41C4220A without changing the bottom bushing.

Loud humming

Ouch. Magnetron check performed with multi meter.

1) Disconnect power to unit
2)Allow to stand for minimum 5minutes
3)Remove cover
4)Find large insulted screwdriver
5)short terminals of capacitor to dissapate charge. (If no pop or crackle its possbly already bled through resistor.

Right. Magnetron check both terminals for short to casing if shorted, replace. Check reading between terminals low resistance or direct short is not a problem. Open circuit, replace.

For non heating, this is usually barrel fuse, typically HV 5Kv or more, faults in an overcurrent situation.

Check the capacitor for shorts to casing, a short will indicate a failure. Check the diode in the capactior if fitted by reverese continuity check accross the terminals. MUST DISCHARGE FIRST, else you'll blow the meter up and likely recieve a SEVERE burn.

The most common cause would have to be a problem with the capacitor next the transformer for loud humming. Three basic checks for the transformer.

Probe the low voltage side first, open circuit? replace. a low reading is normal, high voltage side is a two part process, take a reading between the two terminals one goes to the magnetron the second to the capacitor directly. this should be approx the same reading as the LV coil. The last and most important coil is to check the coil side ofthe barrel fuse to ground, this will measure between 80 - 150 on a digital meter, around 90 to 100 for a 900w is in the normal range.

Loud humming is created primarily by having a working transformer with no wher to send the voltage out.

It will only be one or more of these three items, which will cause this, the rest is safety and control gear.
