Which operating system are you using?...if it is windows XP, you can do a re-install that will replace the missing files....
you do this by going about the install in the normal way, until you get a few screens in when you be informed that windows has found another version of the operating system, and do you wish to fix that installation...check yes, and proceed....any questions, just ask!!!

also wanted to say that before you get to that screen, there will also be the option of using the recovery panal, with witch you can replace the boot files, among other things...if you wish to use that, let me know, and that can be walked thru...

Why is the screen black on windows 8 cannot start computer

There can be several reasons why your laptop screen is going black after logging into Windows. To start with the troubleshooting, you can see if you are able to use Safe Mode to boot into your Windows 8. To know how to boot in Safe Mode, you can refer to the following Microsoft link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2809468

If you are able to boot in Safe Mode, you can use "msconfig" to detect the issues that may be preventing your system from performing normally. To get a better understanding about what is msconfig and how to use it, you can refer to the following Microsoft support page:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/using-system-configuration#1TC=windows-8

If following the steps in the above mentioned link does not help, you can refer to the following HP support page for some more troubleshooting options:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03518165

Hope this will help you.

When trying to boot from a recovery disc i get a blue box asking for a power on password how do i get past this

There is never a need for you to click on F10 during a Windows setup. Why are you doing that? Try again, and just follow the directions...they are very easy to follow.

How to uninstall client services netware

Uninstalling the Client Services for Netware feature will enable the Fast User Switching option on your computer. It is an easy process, and you can do it yourself by following these instructions.

Go to the "Start" menu. Double click on "Control Panel." Double click on "Network Connections." Right click on "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties." This will bring up the "Local Area Connection Properties" dialogue window. Highlight the "Client Services for Netware" by clicking on it once. Click on "Uninstall" in the same dialogue window. Follow the instructions. After the uninstall action has been completed, click on "OK" in the same dialogue window. Hope this helps.

System completely locked out... will not boot!

there will be a setting in the BIOS that will stop the ACER logo, and you can see the Diagnostic screen, and get an idea of where in the process it is hanging....

Personally I bet it is hanging at the 'detect SATA' devices stage.

Open the side panel and remove and re-seat all SATA device cables, at BOTH the device and the motherboard.

If that fails, then the boot sector may need to be repaired on the hard drive. you will need a Windows disk for the OS that your client has though....although if it's an MBR disk you can use an XP or a win2k disk to repair. There are downloadable tools in iso format that you can burn and use to boot from the CD and then repair the boot-sector ...

The computer won't boot Windows 7. It starts up fine, with the fans running with the LED lights on. Then I get an error message: "CD-ROM Boot Priority ..No Medium" I have checked the bios of...

It sounds like either Windows 7 did not install properly or you have a bad hard drive. I did some research on similar problems and most people have also tried to change the boot priority with no luck. If your are tech savvy I would try to run hard drive diagnostics and possibly reinstall Windows 7. If you are not very technical I would suggest taking it to a competent pc repair technician.

My hp pavilion 513n has completely stopped working! I need help!

Start the computer, and keep pressing F8 until you get a "boot" menu -- white text on a black screen.
Select "safe mode with command-line", and see if Windows will start.
If it does, enter 'CHKDSK C: /F' to get Windows to check the integrity of the file-system.

Then, find a friend with a genuine Microsoft Windows XP CD-ROM. Boot from that disk, and choose "repair", and see if the boot-process can "repair" your installed copy.
