Question about SanDisk Sansa c240 MP3 Player

1 Answer

Help! I downloaded 3 songs onto my sansa (12 MB) and it said I had no more space. This didn't surprise me because I know I had over 200 songs on it already. So when I went to delete a few to make space it said I had no songs on it except the 3 i just downloaded...(WTF!!! When did my songs get deleted!? I was just listenin to it!) But I still have NO space for songs even though I only have the 3 songs. So I unhooked my sansa from my laptop to check if there were any songs...There were only the 3 I downloaded...But it's sayin all 953 MB are taken up...? How do I fix this??

Three possibilities:
1) your music service subscription expired (or the license on your songs expired) - solution: update them
2) You switched from msd to mtp mode - solution: switch to AUTO
3) Your DB has been corrupt - solution: update the firmware from the manufacturer's website, or format the player - see my help file on this under my profile

My device will only allow 200 mb or so of file

I resolved this issue.
With some determination:
Turn the device all
Remove the battery
Reinstall the battery
Turn the device on
Go to the Settings
Reset all the Settings
Then Format the settings
Connect the Device to the Computer
Go through the hardware installation
Device should be showing entire GB of space.

Most of the specifications for WMA is based on 64 KPS sample rate and average 4 minutes per song. This is purely marketing garbage as I don't know of many people who listen to 64kps MP3s or WMA's. WMA's you download from Napster, rip from CD, or get from a subscription services are typically 192 KPS which is three times as large. Lowering your sample rate can make your music files smaller, but at a loss of audio quality. The lower the sample rate, the more compression fragments you will have. So it's a trade off between quality vs. quantity.
