Question about NewAir Heating & Cooling

NewAir AirConditioner on "Dehumidifier" Mode Only

I have a NewAir mobile Airconditioner that will run in the Dehumidifier Mode only if so desired. It cools well while being run as an airconditioner. However, when it is running as a dehudifier it runs for three minutes, shuts off for four minutes and repeats. It is quite consistent in this cycle, and has been doing this for at least the four days we've been running it in our basement. I even measured water output one day and got about a gallon of water (I'm running my central air at the same time, so I assume it is removing alot of the humidity as well). There is no Humidistat that I see, it is either in that mode or not. My question is, is this normal? I've never had a unit like this.

But is it normal for it to run for 3 minutes, shut off for 4 and then do this all the time?

I have a 3 ton a/c system that removes about 5-6 gallons of water from the air per day. Most portable dehumidifiers/air-conditioners rate at approx 1/2 to 3/4 of a ton. Your water output is pretty much normal.

Since it is keeping up on the water output, I would say probably yes. Running in combination with your a/c, there is quite a bit less humidity left for it to pull out of the air and the humidistat is satisfying and turning the unit off. Without being able to take the unit apart and put a meter to the electrical components I can't say for 100% sure

Delonghi Pinguino K900, continued to blow hot air, what should be the solution. I want to enjoy the airconditioner aspect of the unit.

There a several things that can cause the problem you have described.

1. The Dehumidifier Mode is operating at the same time as the AC or is operation on it's on.
In dehumidifier Mode heat is produced.

2. Air filter needs to be removed and cleaned.

3. A blockage or crimp in the exhaust hose.

4. The exhaust has a leak or has come loose from the unit.

5. The unit is sitting in direct sunlight or is adjacent to a heat producing appliance.

6. Compressor needs to be recharged with R134a refrigerant gas.

The 6 things listed above are where you need to start troubleshooting. 5 of which are easy to check and correct.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Is the dry mode on the airconditioner a dehumidifier

Air conditioners and dehumidifiers both work on the same idea. A dehumidifier is a "air conditioner" that doesn't run so good as a air conditioner, plus, it sits on the floor in your basement (where ever) and not in the window.

The idea is to draw warmer air (which holds more moisture) into the machine where it is chilled (cooler air can not hold as much moisture). The moisture is deposited on the coils and it drips either to a drip pan (where it runs out the back to the outside (AC)) or a catch bucket (in a dehumidifier and you either dump it in the drain or you have connected a hose and led it to the drain). The air that is returned to the room contains less moisture than it did when it entered the device. The best relative humidity is about 50%, BTW. Not to wet and not to dry.

The goal in the case of a AC is cool air (which contains less moisture) and the goal in a dehumidifier is less humidity (moisture), but not necessarily cooler air.

I am not familiar with "dry mode" to which you refer. You have mentioned your device is a Goldstar Microwave Oven so it is impossible for me to gather any information on your particular model AC or dehumidifier.

I hope this information has helped you today. Thank you for your interst in FixYa.com. Please make a favorable evaluation of this response.

Hi,

There are many reasons why a dehumidifier will not work or collect water.

Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier

I have an airconditioner a Kelvinator KSR20C Split system

Your condensor fan motor has more than likely gone out. This fan should run at all times when the unit is on. Since the fan isn't working then the motor must have gone out.

Newair ADS-300 Dehumidifier

The tank may be full. Your dehumidifier has a safety device that turns off the dehumidifier when the water tank is full. Usually the tank itself either presses against a switch or there's a device connected to the tank that triggers a switch when the tank is in place and full.

If you've emptied the tank and the unit doesn't run, inspect the place where the tank rests to see if there's a switch or mechanism that's not being activated. You may be able to turn it on with a simple flick of your finger.
