I'm not sure if the tivo is causing the problem, but i know its not the panosomic tv because we tried multiple tvs... The picture overlaps about half way. We cannot watch anything. any suggestions? is this the Tivo or something else?
This sounds like it might be interference from some component outside the TiVo. I'd suggest you try connecting the TiVo, and only TiVo, to another TV in your house (if possible) to see if the problem goes away.

This happened to me many times with my Sharp 40" LCD. I am actually running 2 tvs of of 1 HD Tivo. One in the bedroom with HDMI and then through the wall into my kitchen tv via Component. ( yes whatever is on in the bedroom plays in the kitchen).. So this AM my power dropped out for a few seconds then came back on. When the Tivo rebooted I got that " hdmi connection not permitted" message. In the past, I would just reboot everything and all would be ok.. But today I couldnt get the tv with the HDMI to display the programming. It would show the tivo menus, but when I tried to play anything or watch live tv, the message would pop up again. The kitchen TV with the components was working the whole time... So finally I rebooted the Tivo one more time. But this time I left the HDMI cable unplugged from the Sharp in the bedroom untill the Tivo was fully booted and a live channel was playing in the kitchen. I then plugged the HDMI back into the bedroon TV, and it came back on. Im not saying this will work for you, But its worth a try
Set up your infrared blasters connected from your IR port on the Tivo and by placing the two lead lights in front of your cable box so it (the cable box) can read the signal. Then go to Channel settings accessed through Tivo Central and follow the questions. It will ask you to change channels until the remote is working correctly. This all worked on a different "input" on my Mitsubishi TV (it has multiple inputs. I have the cable input on a different "input" to make it work.

Assuming this is a real TIVO and not an NDS DVR which are sometimes called "TIVO's". The delete everything and start over in effect reinitializes (or formats) the Hard Disk Drive. Since many problems can be attributed to software, this is making the assumption it IS a software issue.
If the system kernel and/or associated utilities or the MFS file system are in some manner corrupted, they would give you this hang indication. The Drive would have to be reformatted and the kenel would have to be reinstalled. This is a tedious process that must be performed on a computer running the Linux OS since the TIVO OS is Linux based. There are several internet resources that have free software to download to perform this process. If you have no other TIVO drive to swap out to check that this is the issue, you could buy a new preformatted and loaded drive for your system. www.weaknees.com is a reliable source for TIVO replacement drives and are resonable.
