First, did you plug the printer in to the USB port before the software was installed ? If so , that could be a problem right there. That will require a little effort to correct, but can be done.

Second, make sure that the power is on, and the connections are all tight. I know that sounds elementary, but you would be surprised how many times that could be the culprit.

Now, if all that is okay... try something really elementary... try a new port. If that doesn't work, then you have more work to do.

I will wait for a post back. If that doesn't work, then make sure to give me a detailed message back with exactly what is going on. That will give us more ideas in which direction to go .

Good luck !

Changed the ink cartridge and now the printer doesn't recognize the computer. It says the printer is idle. What do I do?

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
  7. Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

Why isn't it scanning a document to my laptop

Make sure the Lexmark OCR scan software is installed on your laptop. The software is available only on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you still haven't installed the software on your computer and you don't have the installation disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center to request for one.
If you were able to scan documents before using your Lexmark printer, it could be just a slight communication issue. A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When I ask my HP Officejet j4550 to scan a document it tells me that there is no computer hooked up when there is one. I also tried it on another compter to see if it would work and it does. What should I...

Hi,

Are you able to scan from your computer?

Can you tell me which operating system do you have?

What you can try is that you can disable the Anti virus program of your computer once and then try.

Also make sure that the USB cable is plugged in the back of your cabinet and not in the front

"No Printer Found"

This sounds like your OS is not recognizing plug and play devices. You can try to do manual install from a CD or Manufacturers site.Just go to control panel and printers and click add printer and click add local printer and just follow the prompts. Make sure printer is unpluged from the pc before installation wizard tells you to plug it in since some will not install if plugged before driver or software installation. Hope this helps.

I tryed downloading those drivers

Jim

The 120mb one at the bottom is for 64 bit windows.

Without knowing your system, the chances are you need the 32bit 79mb one.

Unplug the printer USB lead
Delete any unused printers in control panel>printers.
Restart the PC
Install the driver.
Plug in the printer USB lead.

How's that?
