Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

Hi, I have recently bought a JVC Everio GZHD7AA camera to continue filming wildlife and editing with my Adobe system which has worked so well for years. I had huge problems with the computer not accepting the TOD files but with Cyberlink Power Director and Power Producer i can now get these clips on the timeline in both and cut to DVD. I cannot get them to run on Adobe Premier 6 which is by far a better place to edit, cannot even bring them back off dvd. Could you please give me some suggestions on which way to go. Thank you Clark Australia

    Thank you Worldvet,

Still no deal. When I try and change the file name it goes unstable.

Here are the steps I have been taking.

I had a professional download my files from the Everio HD7 camera onto DVD as AVI files as suggested to me.

Start Adobe Prem6, click on import, go to file, go to my computer, disc drive, select, comes up Audio TS and Video TS, will not accept down to "File Name" window to be imported.

On Adobe P6, import, backup, TOD files, select file folder, select, no scenes come up in main window under All File Formats. Go backwards, select folder again, open, files displayed as TOD, click play and they play with VLC media player but like 4 frames per second.

I contacted JVC and was less than happy with their approach overall. Was told finally after much debate over problem to reinstall camera disc. I did this 3 times and finally Power Producer and Power Director would accept TOD files. At this stage I though we were on a roll.

I select Cyberlink Power Director Express, select same file, highlight, it accepts into File Name, accepts through to timeline, can then build files into a clip, go to produce, create a file, then to step 2, select MPEG2, to step 3, produce a movie, this puts a MPEG2 file onto my hard drive. From here, I go to Power Producer, bring in the file, burn it to a DVD which plays well in all computers and TV sets.

I now try to open Adobe P6 to do my editing, add stored files for logos etc. Power Director is so basic to try anything with. I select DV Pal Widescreen, ok, Import, File, Select project (ie; Produce 4a.mpg) it opens in File Name window, All Format types, Open and there it is in Bin as Item 1. Grab the file and drag across to second monitor window as usual but it will only play at about 2 frames/sec and no audio (line is flat and red) Quality looks good but cannot edit.

    Awaiting your reply and thanks,

    Clark

    Thank you Proton77,

There is no error report shown on Adobe when I try and edit.

The problem seems to be trying to get the mpg files to run on Adobe 6. They play, record etc well from Power Producer.

If Power Director had even a fraction of the features Adobe has to edit with I would be going okay. At present, I am working 20 hrs per day (doing work that should take 2 hours) getting footage ready for a major section of my business and this problem is crippling me.

Any extra help or suggestions will be appreciated.

This is JVC's proprietary extension for MPG. Just rename the file from *.mod to *.mpg and then work with it. You shouldn't have the probelm. You could also look for a patch to premier that adds the tod extension but renaming it is easier for now.

Clark, Are you able to analyze your base video files after getting them onto your hard drive a mpeg2s and examine the frame rate?

We get customer's from all over the globe so I don't know if your in a PAL or NTSC country.

What are the details on your meg2 file then, frame rate, bit rate, display aspect, High Def and if so which h type is that?

There are some open source programs from sourceforge.net that are good at analysis, but I bet you already have Sherlock, etc from the K-lite pack or do you?

My principal conclusion initially and most likely your hunch as well is that the import filter for Premier is what is weak or the

I don't wonder if your camera is recording over to NTSC 23.97 fpm and your instructing premier to work with PAL and this may be where the adobe filter is failing you.

You may want to get a couple of apps from SourceForge.net

Hand Brake which was designed for the Mac and has been ported to Windows.

And, Media Coder which I use to do file conversions most of the time. It is the most versatile program out there that's free for doing straight conversions of mpeg2 to mpeg2 but a different bit rate which may the entire problem with Premiere. A really high bit rate will slow down any player or software, where in your studio master you may be just fine with a 1500 or 2500 bit rate sampling. Media Coder will analyze your file first once you get used to finding the information from the controls. If you get settings out of sorts you can reset defaults from the File Menu and start over. The forum for Media Coder is a great resource too.

I was able to find closest possible solution to your problem on the following link. The problem is TOD extension would not run on adobe . You need to convert the same to mpeg to un and edit

As you are already using the Power director, you can convert the TOD files to mpeg video and use the same in adobe to edit.

If you intend to export .TOD files to another application such as Adobe Premiere then it will be easier to track the locations of the Cyberlink output. Download video files from the camera via USB to the designated storage area. Rename files as required. Default names can cause problems later.

1.Open Cyberlink PowerDirector Express 5 NE. Set up the file locations in preferences.

2.Notice that the designated EXPORT folder is empty

3.Import .TOD files into PowerDirector Express
4.A conversion takes place automatically during the import process.

    Thanks

Ps. I'll try to find the images for you for the above procedure, so that its more helpful to you

hi there
it sounds like a codec problem. you need to check what file type your camera is storing the files onto the disk. right click the disk right click a chapter and select the properties option then make a note of the file type mpeg 2 or mp4 or avi etc. next find out if pe supports that file type (should be in the manual some where) and if it doesn't the codec may be downloadable from adobe support, also make sure the data code function is switched on on your camera as this is how the software sees the chapters (again should be in the camcorder manual) another option is to try pinnacle studio software as its a lot easier to use and i have never had a problem with it. you can pick one up on e bay for about a tenner (version 8 will be good enough)
hope this helps

Cannot remove adobe 8.1.1 using windows uninstall

check the net to see if there is a removal tool for Adobe,
if not ,it can be done in the registry but you need to be very careful, it is not for the faint hearted.

do not use the quotation marks shown ,when typing.
  • go to start button select "run",
  • type "regedit" in box
  • click on "edit"
  • then "find"
  • type in "Adobe"
  • any line with adobe in it will be highlighted
  • check the line before hitting delete key
  • then hit enter(ok) to confirm delete
  • hit F3 to continue search
  • then follow the same procedure to the end
continue this till you get to the end of the registry it may take a long time.

again i stress you have to be very careful when playing around in the registry as it can give you a real headache if you delete something you should not have, even requiring you to re install windows

good luck
