Question about Televison & Video

Toshiba tv model 32zp18q playing up.

Hi,
My tv is only 4 years old and has now got the following problems.
you switch it and get no picture. It switches its self off a few minutes later.
10 minutes later you switch it on again, it will stay on.sometimes as long as you want it to,others until it wants to.It also sometimes shows parts of ceefax in any form on bits of the screen. If you try to get ceefax you can only get one page or the lines along the top.
I have disconnected my sky,dvd and video but this makes no difference.
would be most grateful for any advice.
Regards,
Kevan London

It may be a power supply or IC chip problem.Circuit is complicated and not suggested to troubleshoot it by end user. It is better to take to an authorized service shop.
Have a look if downloading service manual from link below get some help by troubleshooting tips.

Look here: http://www.archives.repairhelper.com/tv_board_detail154e.html

It sounds like the same problem and since the "ceefax" you mention is handled by the teletext IC it would make sense that it is the cause of your problem. As that article state, resoldering all connection of the QT09 board could solve your problem.

The power light may be flashing or if you are runing with a series light bulb it may be cycling on and off continuously. There may be a chirping or clicking sound from inside the set. (Note: using too small a series light bulb load during testing for the size of the TV may also result in this condition.) If there is a low voltage regulator or separate switching supply, it could be cycling on and off if the horizontal output, flyback, or one of its secondary loads were defective. Does this TV have a separate low voltage regulator and/or switching power supply or is it all part of the flyback circuit? For the following, I assume it is all in one (most common). Some simple things to try first: Verify that the main filter capacitor is doing its job. Excessive ripple on the rectified line voltage bus can cause various forms of shutdown behavior. An easy test is to jumper across the capacitor with one of at least equal voltage rating and similar capacitance (make connections with power off!). Use a Variac, if possible, to bring up the input voltage slowly and see if the TV works at any point without shutting down. If it does, this could be an indication of X-ray protection circuit kicking in, though this will usually latch and keep the set shut off if excessive HV were detected.

Hope that helps........

Toshiba (Model : 36A43) - volume goes down automatically

I am having same problem on 32 inch same problem. After playing with board with no results,I tried front buttons and found that if I held the power button in ever so slighItly as not to turn it off, it fixed problem which is the micro on/off switch, I removed the switch and used the remote and everything is back to normal, I am about to insall a used micro switch after I finish typing this but I am sure this will clear up volume problen and menu going crazy problem if not I will just leave micro switch out and use the remote, and I will get back to this board only if that micro switch still causes the problem, so if I don't post in next hour the problem is fixed and I'm more than glad to help.

No Picture.

I have the same TV, your projection bulb has quit/failed.

A loud pop was heard and the picture has gone followed by a red led fault light clicking on and off.

if your tv is less than 1 year old, and you registered it with Toshiba, you could qualify for a free replacement.

otherwise expect to pay 200.00 for a new bulb from Toshiba.

only good thing is you can replace it yourself, only tool needed is a phillips screwdriver.

you can check EbaY for prices less than 175.00 to 150.00
i am on my 3rd bulb within 4 years....

good luck!
