Rowenta Steamer I purchased a Rowenta Steamer a few months ago and after several uses it continues to have a smell within it everytime I turn it on. I smells like skunk! I have run a solution of vinegar through it but did not work. Any suggestions? Cheryl Boyer

I am not sure what the problem is, but Rowenta recommends that you use only clear or filtered drinking water only. Make sure to remove the reservoir and use the burst of steam to empty it out completely. When cool, access the steamer drain hole and fill and flush the tank over the kitchen sink or use the cleaning kit following the instructions. After a few of these use and purge cycles the system should be clean in a few weeks.

I have a Rowenta steamer and found there is fine white particulate settling in the bottom of the reservoir over time. I opened the reservoir and it reallr stunk bad. Flushed it a few times and the smell is gone. I used distilled water in this unit and always have. It seems the clear plasic reservoir is breaking down and the plastic gets into the water and makes it stink bad when you use it. I'm going to contact Rowenta and see what they say.

Unless it smells bad I wouldn't. Just always use distilled water. The unit is boiling the water so what comes out is already disinfected.

I have the vertical commercial steamer model IS 8100. Machine lights up, no steam. The cord doesn't even get hot. I've tried to demineralize it by allowing vinegar to sit in the well of the base. Thanks...

My unit did the same thing. There is a temperature fuse attached to the heating chamber. If the unit overheats it will blow this fuse. It is not re-setable and must be replaced. Radio Shack carries these items.

Check your chamber for crude. Mine was pretty bad and I ended up filling it up with white vinegar over night. If you can get it to work, boil a solution of 1/4 white vinegar and DISTILLED water. Let it run through a whole tank of it and then run it with just DISTILLED water until you don't smell vinegar anymore. Do this every few months with heavy use.

Possible that there is corrosion inside the steamer unit . The best is to keep filling and puttingthe set on till the dirt ceases to come over.
It can be due to even some foreign particles that is lodged in and making is combine with steam to produce the dirt colour.
If you can use a flexible bowden to clean into the holes just to see if there is any block it will be useful.

Burning smell

thermal switch is not working...upon reaching a certain temperature limit it should switch off then switch on again after a moment to maintain the set temperature..what happened here is that your thermal switch didn't switch off so the temperature continue to rise to the extent that the heating element burnt and smell like that..adjust the setting in such a way that it switches off after reaching the desired temperature..
