Clicking noise when it turns on and won't focus, lens error also

What you are describing is probably the beginning of a possible lens error. If the camera still operates correctly (the lens extends correctly, you can still take photos that are correctly focused) then there may be sand or dirt in the lens mechanism that will eventually cause a failure. Just as an initial step, get a can of compressed air and blow out the space between the lens barrel and the camera body. If the clicking noises continue and the lens movement is not smooth, it is time to contact Nikon support at the link below

Camera says

Hi there just like to informed you that 2 reason can make a noise.
1. low or old battery's using.
Solution: replace it if too old or charged it fully.

2. Lens error. Internal lens guide pin if damaged then the camera goes off with bad noise.

Solution: repair or replaced the lens guide pin.
Thanks & waiting for your feedback.

My camera says lens error

Chances are your focus is messed up or damage or the lens motor is i would suggest getting a new camera or getting it fixed at a camera store

It has a lens error. Everytime the camera is turned on it beeps and clicks constantly. It eventually shuts off after displaying "Lens error, restart camera." on the screen.

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Statup problem

Hi there and welcome to FixYa.

Sorry no one has gotten to your problem sooner.
There is a problem with the lens mechanism. Here is what you can do, either:
A) Whack the camera on the palm of your hand as the lens is extending. OR:
B) As the lens is extending, pull it out and twist it. Don't be afraid of it, but...don't rip it out of it's socket either...LOL. Just give it a pretty good tug/twist.

It may take a couple tries, but that is what will help you. You just have to align the pins right with the track that they ride in. Let me know if you have any questions.

Frozen lens and shutter

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
