Kodak DCS 14n freezes, capture error, or forgets firmware version
My DCS 14n sometimes gets a capture error when taking photographs. I have tried using different compactflash cards, and tried formatting the cards in the camera, but it makes no difference. Sometimes, the camera locks up when storaing an image to a card. The only thing that works to unlock it, is removing the rechargable battery. Sometimes, when any of these things happen, it also regats the latest firmware version (5.4.1), so it must be reloaded to the camera.
Re: Kodak DCS 14n freezes, capture error, or forgets...
Did you ever solve the problem? I had the same problems; the Kodak is still lyng around since 2-3 years. I bought a Nikon D3 instead but I'm not satisfied about the colours and the brightness of the D3. I'm seriously thinking about either repaairing my Kodak or buyin one again...

is this not a problem with your lens rather than PC - best was to check is to take two separate BLACK (if white marks) or vice versa, pictures and see if the "tree" is on exactly the same place on all pictures good luck.
HelloUnfortunately, the service manual for your Kodak DCS 14n is not available anywhere online. The manufacturers of this product did not make it available. I would suggest you contact Kodak and request for the manual from them. They might give it to you or direct you to a dealer where you can get the manual.
To understand the photo loss situation, consider a scenario: You format a memory card in Digital Camera, and start to capture some pictures. However, while capturing pictures, your camera shuts down due to low battery. Now, after recharging battery, when you try to access those photograph on the card, you receive the following error message on camera screen:
The Card requires formatting: Additionally, the camera is unable to capture any new photographs.
The main cause for the above error message is corruption of memory card due to conking of battery while a read/write operation was running.
These memory card needs to be formatted before you save any new pictures. It is always a good practice to take backup of card and format it before use. This enables you to fight with any damage done to the memory card and to erase the old data saved on the card. However, the probability of card getting corrupted again (after you have saved new data) still exists.
First try formating with an external SD Card reader connected at PC and test it.
Hello! Seems the DCS PRO/n do not handel SD cards with HC capabilitys. So the largest SD cars that there is i 4GB. Problems is to find such a card. In reallity 2GB is possible. I recomend You to obtain a CF card instead. I use a 16GB CF and it work like a charm.
I know this contribution might be late, but try to avoid using the auto white balance. Use a tungsten mode and test each of its compensations until you get the desired result. I haven't had a similar problem on the 14n, but my D100 always places a magenta cast on white when shooting auto WB. I learned how to adapt the other WB modes to any situation.
This is somewhat of a long-shot, but try formatting both of your cards in your camera. I once bought a digital camera and tore my hair out with similar symptoms until I formatted the card in the camera. If the problem persists, I'd call Kodak. Good luck!!
