Question about KitchenAid KAWS850LE Top Load Washer

KitchenAid KAWS777E Washer will not spin

My KitchenAid drains the water but does not spin. The owner's manual says to see if the drain line is clogged. I have removed the line from the back of the washer and that section is not clogged. Any ideas? Do you know how to remove the back in case it is a bad belt or something else? Thanks.

I had the same problem. If if sounds like a ratcheting/grinding sound when it goes into spin mode, then it is most likely the coupler which goes between the motor shaft and whatever turns the drum. It is a cheap (literally) plastic part that cracks and allows the coupler to slip on the shaft, rendering the spin cycle useless. The part number is AP3963893, for a newer improved part with a metal sleeve use part number 119567. My local appliance parts store only had the older part. I'm sure I'll have to fix this again in about 6-7 years. This page has an image of the new part:http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail...

what are we checking for when we are trying to figure out if it is the lid switch? I stuck a butter knive in mine and I can hear the motor but it still does not adjatate or spin or move for that matter.

We are having the same problem. Try the lid switch. It is located just under the oval hole in the rim of the washer. There is a plactic pointer on the lid that pushes the lid switch down so the basket can spin. It is a safety thing. The plastic lid switch costs around $43 and is really not a problem to put in. Good luck!

WHY ON MY MAYTAG EPIC WHEN IT GETS TO SPIN IT JUST MAKES DRAINING NOISE AND WATER WONT DRAIN?

Sounds like your drain line is clogged. You may also have stuff clogging a water filter just before the pump, or the water outlet coming from the drum.
It could also be a problem with the pump, but until the drain line is opened up, you still won't be able to empty the water from the washer.

Won't Spin

Your Drain Pump is not draining, so the water stays and the machine stops! Or there is a clogged/kinked drain line. Could be that sock your missing! Really. Check the Filter. It is in the Owners Manual on how too and have a towel-bucket ready for the water! Also, unplug the machine first so you don't get a surprising start or Shock!

Describe your kitchenaid clothes washer KAWE450VWHO Problem will not spin or drain water.

If it makes any noise when it SHOULD be draining and spinning, it's most likely your motor coupler. It couples the motor to the transmission and takes the place of a belt. If the machine it completely silent and just stops when it gets to the rinse/spin cycle, then it's probably the lid switch. Hope this helps.

hi friend,
If your washer won't drain, check these:

It spins, but doesn't pump
It doesn't spin or pump
It pumps, but the water returns
It spins, but doesn't pump
If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many
washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub
that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's
attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the
hoses
from the pump and pull the item out.

To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the
large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using
needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port.

Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator,
top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might
be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job.

If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be
turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

It doesn't spin or pump
If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably
has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the
pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen
or stiff--replace it.

It pumps, but the water returns
If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your
washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the
washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck
in the drain?) Also, check for these problems:

* If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess.

* If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.
