The settings might have been changed to the Closed Caption option to "Text" mode. Go through the menu to the Closed Caption item and getting out of "Text" mode will solve the problem.

Duffinator, good day

just another personal thought, if you won't be able to get a universal remote, you may try to remove all the channels and re-scan it again, this should be able to erase the channels set on V-chip.

if this should not work, you may also leave the TV unplugged from the outlet since this may reset the lock code that you currently have to 0000, but for the key combination, i'm still looking for one that will do the trick, i will keep you posted though.

good luck

well if the tv has some soft of a BIOS battery to keep the settings saved while turned off, unplugging the TV from the power outlet for some while (minimum of 30min / max of a day or 2) will reset the settings, hopefully including the lock.

Disconnecting the television from all cables and electricity for about 30 minutes to 2 hours will cause the device to go into setup mode. You will then have the opportunity to set the v chip how you want it when you reinitialize the setup.

Yes, Shownic is common in the Middle East but not in the states.

Still the same holds for most electronics, including most televisions. You have to leave the device off until it resets itself. If it comes back on with the word LOCK then it has not reset itself.

Initial setup should be pretty much plug and play. Just don't set up the V chip setting. escape from set up if you can by adjusting the channel on the set manually.

http://shownic.net/contactus.php is the web site for emailing the manufacturer. These sets are provided by militatary and user manuals are not readily available. Sorry. Godspeed over there.

Bypass V-Chip Mitsubishi TV

Bypassing the V-Chip Lock on most Mitsubishi sets:
Mitsubishi sets use a four-digit passcode that is required to view a V-Chip locked program, view the locked TV, cancel the lock, or enter the V-Chip lock menus.
If you don't have the passcode, it is easy to bypass. This is neccessary if you forgot the code, purchased the set used, or if you simply don't feel like searching through your files to find it.

To bypass the V-chip: You can view the locked shows by pressing the number 9 and QV buttons on the remote at the same time, whenever your passcode is requested. This process temporarily unlocks the TV.

To reset the code: When you use the button combination 9 and QV while entering the V-Chip Lock menu, this process deletes your old passcode and prompts you to enter a new passcode.

Toshiba Child lock

You might want to try the same solution for the V-Chip (this might be the same thing as the child lock, it is worth a try) protection to see if this will help:

Changing V-Chip Settings for MV13L3, TV/VCR Combo 2001.

-Unplug your tv for 1 minute.
-Plug your tv in and turn it on.
-hold the volume down button on the tv at the same time you hold the "0" button down on the remote. This will bring up the "Set V-Chip" blue screen.
-Enter "0000" for the password and hit enter. Enter "0000" to confirm the password and hit enter.
-This will bring up the V-Chip set page. From this page you can: Turn Off the V-Chip, Change the Limits for viewing, etc.
-If you turn off the V-Chip setting, you will not have to deal with this problem again.
