Question about Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 Webcam
Hello. I am not extremely computer savvy, but I do have some basic knowledge. My ultimate goal is to be able to use my Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000 webcam in Yahoo Messenger. I have gone through some troubleshooting methods and know that I 1) have a Windows Vista 32-bit operating system, 2)have installed the latest version of yahoo messenger (8.1) and 3) installed the latest downloads at the manufacturer (Microsoft) website for the VX-3000.
The initial problem I had was on Yahoo messenger when I tried to "view my webcam" it said there was "no webcam found." I have the software installed and the camera plugged into various USB ports. I then downloaded the latest versions of software and tried to open my webcam on messenger.
Now when trying to view the broadcast on Yahoo messenger it displays the following message: "Valid installation of lifcam10.msi" which I believe refers to an excel file and can be referred to as "37418.msi" Is this a virus?
What should I do next? Please be as detailed as possible because I am no expert and trying to walk myself through this process.
I found the answer to my problem by downloading the updates on Microsoft (manufacturer) website. This seemed to fix the problem I was having viewing my webcam on Yahoo Messenger.

I saw a similar message about lifcam10.msi on my machine which promped me to investigate a few things. turns out that trojans were found that were appending themselves to other files on my system. although i have NAV (norton antivirus) installed and updated, it, for some reason, didn't detect the trojan and it reeked a bit havoc. trendmicro's online 'housecall' (free online scanner) found the trojan and it's replications and quarentined them but, the process removed needed files from their folders.
so, a few things to try are:
go to trendmicro.com - click ' free tools ' then ' housecall '. do an online virus scan to see if it picks up anything.
go to prevx.com and read about the filename you listed ' lifcam10.msi ' from the message:
if either one finds anything, they will prompt you before attempting to change anything.
hope this helps you. - john -
