Detailed instructions on how to replace the LCD on LG Shine CU720

I can't find the instructions on the net to do this operation myself.

I DON'T WANT TO SEND IT TO ANYONE TO BE REPAIRED!

I have the replacement LCD and would really appreciate it if someone could post step by step instructions.

I've pretty much got it disassembled but am stuck at separating the metal cover that surrounds the glass on the slider.

Thanks in advance.

Step 1. Take off back cover and remove battery and sim card. Step 2. Remove the six screws holding on the back cover Step 3. Get a thin piece of metal and pry off back piece of the main phone unit Step 4. Once you get the back piece off you can see a green unit at the top of phone. This is the camera, all you do is pull on it and it should unclip Step 5. Once the camera is removed you can see 4 more screws, unscrew these Step 6. Now that the screws are out you can pull off the main board. The first thing you need to do is unclip the black ribbon that is at the top. Then you have to unlip the clip on all four corners, after you do this the main board will come out. Step 7. Now That you have that off there are 2 screws on the back thats you must unscrew. Step 8. With the screws gone you can now pull the slider away from the piece that has the number pad on it. Step 9. On the back of the slider there are 6 screw you must unscrew. The Two screws at the top have small black circles glued on-top of them. Just wedge something under the black peices and they will come off Step 10. Now that the screws are out you can pry off the plastic LCD screen cover from the metal slider piece. Step 11. After the LCD screen cover is gone you must unscrew 2 screws to the left and right of the joystick. After you remove the screws the joystick cover comes off. Step 12. Now that you have the cover off you need to turn the plate where the joystick is on over and pull out of the LCD screen clip Step 13. After you do this you can now put in the replacement and put the phone back together GOOD LUCK

We just this minute compleated this repair on our phone.

Here is the link for a video on disassembly of the phone.
http://cnn.cn/shop/video_info.php?videos_id=20
There is no audio on these videos.

There is one important piece of info you need that is not on the video. I found it somewhere else. Here it is:

"...when I got to the ribbon cable connector bit, I began to wish I hadn't taken the job on... it seemed a bit like eye surgery but without the right tools. To boot, the connector is difficult to see behind the roller switch let alone figure out how the very small gold connectors are held in place etc. Don't just yank it. The entire thing is about quarter of an inch wide, white and gold in colour with a black plastic strip running along the point where the terminals slide in. You have to first unclip the black strip - I would describe this as the plastic strip "flopping" down - but does something as tiny as this actually "flop"? Whatever... once it's flopped, slide the connector out. The bad news is that it's easy to screw it up. The good news is that a new ribbon cable is only going to cost you around a tenner - and it seems as though it may be a good idea to replace this anyway (I even had a sneaking suspicion that this component may have been the source of the problem - all of the movement of the unit is connected to this... the sliding motion, the pressing of buttons, the roller etc are just activating controls soldered onto this ribbon). It's a bit of a palaver unscrewing the compartment that holds this in place, but it's quite comforting in that you have replaced most of the very delicate bits that you inexpertly manhandled when you were trying to get them apart (including the problem ribbon connecter).

You have to be careful clicking the ribbon cable back to the main body of the phone - it's a bit like a stud connector clicking on. Anything involving any pressure is stressful in this job, but if you're careful, you'll be OK."

Good luck.

I guess you pressed SEND before you could say what it is, the brand name, and the model.

Can you give it another try?

It would be very nice to know if anyone can help.

GZ-MS 130AU Camera. There seems to be a loose wire in the door. When I open it, the camera turns on, but the screen goes black, if it is open just an inch, I can film, any more than that, and the screen...

The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

That's a UK model.

The solution is to have your control unit repaired. In most cases, a shop will just replace the whole control unit, but they are likely to fail again without our proprietary modifications.

We repair those mostly for US and Canadian customers, but in the UK you can contact Quality Electronic Repairs. I think they repair these.

We occasionally have customers from the UK and Australia send theirs in for repair (not just board replacement) but the extra shipping charges may be a bit much for most customers.

Quite often, a customer will send their old defective board, unit then swap it when we send it back.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
