Internal cd then you need to tighten screws, external cd unit relocate. not recognized then you need to go into CONTROL PANEL and see if the CD unit is listed. If it is not then do an ADD/REMOVE HARDWARE function.

Computer DVD/CD Drive does not recognise any discs

The most likely cause is a faulty DVD drive. Replacing the DVD drive is fairly simple.

You can buy a new one online for around $25 including shipping. If you need help finding a drive or installing a drive, I can help with that. Just let me know.

It takes @least 30 minutes to boot

It sounds like your computer is not recognising the hard drive. Go into the bios (keep pressing the delete key as your computer starts up ) and find 'hard drive auto select' and press enter to see if your computer can recognise the hard drive. Even if this works it sounds like your hard drive is on the way out.
1/ Make sure no floppy or CD in drives
2/ Check Hard Drive cable connections, both ends
3/ Go into BIOS and check drive is recognised in there

My Lite-On Internal Dual DVD does not recognise any CD. It keeps asking to insert a disc in my destination drive. It does however, recognise a DVD. My checks conclude that it's the best available...

Try a 'quickiee', While the power is OFF! disconnect the cables or cable to the duel dvd,[IDE (long 26 pin) & power] turn on computer, goto to control panel >system icon>system properties>Hardware>device manager>DVD\CD-rom Drives. NOTE:: you should see ONE instance of your CD\DVD drive, REMOVE it.Turn computer off., RECONNECT the power & ide cables to the dvd. Turn power on, the computer SHOULD see your hardware, if it don't, It could be semi-damaged,or internattance [sometimes is, sometimes not working]

THE LAPTOP WILL NOT RECOGNISE THAT THE CD DRIVE IS INSTALLED

First, I'm assuming you have a Windows operating system. When you first turn on the laptop hit the F1 key (on most computers - her's may be otherwise) to enter the setup mode. You have to do it quickly or the machine will roll right into the operating system start-up screen. Follow the setup instructions until you get to the point where you're at "Secondary Master" for EIDE drive devices. This is GENERALLY where the CD drive is "stationed" in the overall drive device hierarchy. Set the "Secondary Master" for "Auto detect" and then "save and exit" (usually F10). Good luck.
