Since it is a work laptop, there is a possibility that the connection it recognizes is configured for work connection only.
you may try to set another "Default" connection on your "network connection" or install a pocket application (i used to do this on my work laptop) like pocket "mozilla" so that the browser settings are configurable.

here is what you do provided that you have a broadband connection:

for the network connection...
1.click start>settings>control panel
2.click network and internet > network connections
3.look for a connection icon that has a check mark on it, right click it then click on "canel as default connection"

you will need to change this back to default settings once you're done since your wife may not be able to use her laptop at work.

if you cannot install another application on the laptop try these:

1.open internet explorer
2.click tools> internet options>connections
3.on this window make sure the option saying "never dial a connection is clicked" if not, then click it, hit apply
4.once the wondow is good click on "LAN settings" button, on the window that will appear make sure no option is CHECKED, if you have some, uncheck them.

do make sure that you change this back also to how you found it once your done, because these settings may not apply to the settings of your wife for her office.

good luck!!!

How do I get yahoo homepage back

Hi Janice,

To add or change home pages

  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.
  2. Click the Tools button f2d3a394-a4c3-4747-989e-cf3f6b782b2f_43.jpg, and then click Internet options.
  3. On the General tab, under Home page, enter the URL of the site you want to set as a home page, in your case www.yahoo.com. You can add more than one URL, or add the site you're currently viewing by clicking Use current. If you add more than on URL, put each URL on its own line.
  4. Click Apply, and then tap or click OK. The next time you open a new browsing session or window (or tap or click the Home button), your home pages will be loaded automatically.

I have been trying all morning to get my Toshiba laptop connected to the internet but to no avail. I am with BT who finally informed me that there may be something wrong with the wireless network adaptor...

1. I see that you have a wireless B adapter. Does your wife's computer have a Wireless B adapter also?

2. If ur wife's laptop does not have a wireless B but has a wireless G then we are closer to resolving the problem

3. It's now time to access the wireless router to see if it is allowing access from wireless B client adapters OR only G.

4. If it is set to G only, then you need to change it to B+G

5. If it is already set to B+G, then we need to check the security settings on the AccessPoint

6. If the security settings need for u to register the MAC address of your card in addition to entering a password then u'd have to acquire the MAC address of ur card and add it to the allow list.

To get MAC ADDRESS:
Go to the command prompt
Type ipconfig /all (then press enter)

Windows shuts down when card reader or camera is plugged into USB

Some software programs monitor for removable drives which are not used. When you plug in your camera or memory card or memory stick, It comes up as a removable drive. My wife's laptop with Vista Home Basic had a problem between her secure memory stick and InCD. BSOD would cause restart the computer when stick was plugged in. I temporarily disabled InCD and memory stick works. Funny, though, her machine had no trouble with her camera. Go figure.

Toshiba laptop won't turn on

Several things could cause this problem. Be sure the battery is charged for one. For two, it could be the power supply. If it is the power supply, you will need to bring it into a shop. If it makes any sound or has any light on, the power supply may not be the problem. Good Luck!
