Question about LG DR787T DVD Recorder

3 Answers

LG DR787T I have an LG DR787T disc player/recorder and every time I insert a disc it says reading, then displays NO DISC on the screen. I have tried multiple discs and tried to reset the unit as well. Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

    Same "NO Disc" problem!

Same problem but my warranty is over

I get an "Unknown disc" error and it won't play, or the machine just plain ejects the disc after it tries and fails to read it. This often happens after it sits overnight and is turned on for the first time the next day. It's not happening every time yet, but I have a feeling it soon will. It's out of warranty, too.

I have this same junk DVD recorder(LG model dr787T). At the time, it was the most expensive one in the store, my wife got it for my birthday. It always had reading problems with DVDs, most of the time it would say "NO DISC" even good brand new movies. This thing is a worthless piece of junk and LG should take them back and replace them. I had contacted LG about a year ago about it, they just told me how to reset it. It doesn't help. I haven't touched the thing in months now, but just tried to burn something tonight and now I've wasted an hour trying to get it to work, that's why I'm online, checking to see if I can find any secrete to make this thing work right.

You can possibly use a PC with a DVD recorder to do a 'quick format' of the media and make it useable again. I think the LG does not have a very strong laser, or it is set at low power, and does not record a very strong 'phase change' in the media. Sometimes a format, even a 'full format', will make the media usable.

I recently had the exact same problem. I called LG. They had me try 2 things. The first was to unplug the player and then hold down the power button for 20 seconds. This supposedly resets the machine. For me it did not work, for you it may. The second thing they told me was to get a laser cleaning disk. Also didn't work but it was like 5 bucks and good to have anyway so you might as well try that as well. Though I was later told by a second help person at LG the laser does not need to be cleaned until after 1000 hours of use. After there two attempts it was decided that it needed to be serviced. Luckily I was within the 90 day warranty so they sent me the DHL stickers to send it back and get fixed for free. I am sending it off today. Once it gets in the mail fixing it is their problem. If you are past the 90 days but under a year it is 65 bucks to have them service it. I am hoping they consider fixing it a total loss and they just send me out the newer and hopefully bug free model. Best of luck though!

Dvd player cant read the disc

Just the one disc, or all you put in? Every DVD player will have a proviso in the user guide that some discs will not play successfully due to

- poor quality recording or disc surface, maybe scratches
- pirated disc
- out-of-region disc origin
- unsuitable DVD-RW format

If every disc, the laser unit has possibly failed or gone out of alignment. These units are uneconomical to repair.

Dr787t won't play disc. Player won't recognize

You can try to stop this by dis-assembling the unit to gain access to the laser and you can clean the laser using a cotton bud or cue tip, if that doesnt solve the issue, what you can do is with the case off, put in a dvd and see if it spins, and also note if the laser is lighting up, if it isnt lighting up or if the disc isnt spinning you may need to replace the dvd loader of the unit.
If the laser doesnt light up and the disc doesnt spin its possible you may need to replace the MPEG Printed Circuit Board which you will fing attatched to to the dvd loader via small ribbon cables, be carefull when removing these if you need to remove them or a seriens of small plugs. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
