How do you adjust the fuel air mixture?

hello sir,, now there are two types of carb.adjustment screw covers, the old one where there are plastic over the screws, simple remove the plastic covers with a pair of needle nose pliers or cutting off,,,second are the new ones that are above the adjustment screws, which you have to take your drummel tool with the cutting blade and cut slots in the screws, after you get this done it is important to count the number of rotations in until stops make note how many. because you are going to reset the same way.now remove the screws, put to the side when you get ready to put screws in put in all the way than back out as many turns that you noted, now that is factory set there should only be a small adjustment to do. the rule of thumb is turn both out 1 1/4 turn and adjust in until saw runs smooth and idles ok, it is hard to adjust the top speed when saw is running wide open, let saw idle when adjusting top speed is easier that way, when you go to cut wood you may have to readjust top speed, the above does apply some what if you are not using fresh gas mix and dumped out the old fuel and starting with fresh, and a new plug CJ8Y,and as you know the saw has to breath in and out by this i mean a clean air filter, make sure the small screen on the muffler is not cloged, this will keep saw from running at peak speed and sawing wood, ok i have ran across a few saws to where the small screen in the muffler is cloged so the saw would idle but not run at high rpm's,if you do and check all of the above your saw should run,oh btw check compression should be above 60 to 160 lbs, hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you. 00

The ignition coil is attached to the spark plug cable. Also check the spark plug number for the chain model. As the chain get older you can put a cooler spark plug and try before change the coil.

I have a Husqvarna 357 xp which is about a year and a half old, but has had very little use for a professional saw. I was cutting with the saw upside down when it suddenly cut out. After letting it rest...

The carb is an "all position" type and shouldn't be the problem.

Check and clean/replace the fuel filter in the tank. Dirty or old gas, sawdust and/or water etc. settle on the bottom of the tank; and when the saw is turned over will plug the filter, causing the symptoms you discribe.

It is possible, if you used old gas(3 to 6 months) that small varnish particles have gotten through the fuel filter and have pluged the fine screen in the carb(located under the diaphram).

Husqvarna 20" 359 wont start. Has spark. the gas and oil were mixed and left in a plastic vented can in the hot sun. came back a day later and half the mixture evaported. Could the gas have evaporated and...

You are correct. Too high a fuel to oil ratio will not asallow the engine to run. Try using a fresh mixture of the correct ratio. It may take a lot of pulls on the starter until the old fuel is purged from the carby.

I have a 18" Craftsman gas chain saw. It will not keep running, after two or three cuts it just stops and cannot be started again until it sits for 15 to 20 minutes. I have cleaned the air filter and...

Try removing the fuel cap for a moment, then try restart. If ok, check the fuel vent for plugging. Check the fuel filter for plugging. Inspect the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Check for spark when it stops--it may be the ignition module failing when hot. Check for sawdust and dirt plugging the ventilation system--blow it out with compressed air. Does the engine 4-stroke at speed when not cutting, but does 2-stroke when cutting? Make sure the chain is being oiled while running. Hope this helps!

My husky 359 will start and run okay but stops after 5 - 10 mins of cutting and will not start again unless you use the choke, sometimes will not start again at all. I have replaced the fuel, spark plug...

Your description seems to imply improper fuel tank venting. Remove the fuel cap, then replace and try restart. If it now runs for another similar period, troubleshoot the vent. If no improvement, then check the fuel filter, fuel lines, and carburetor fasteners for tightness including the mounting fasteners to the cylinder. Does the primer bulb appear to be able to pull new fuel in when this problem occurs? Does the engine seem to be overheating? You may be having problems with the internals of the carburetor--it could be necessary to dismantle, clean and reassemble. Check especially the diaphragm in the lower section and the fuel metering valve that it controls. 262 XP engine cut out on tickover, now will not start

Try checking for spark when she won't start. I'll wager your ignition module quits when it gets good and warm. HTH

Husqvarna chainsaw model 359 will not restart after refuel and bar+chain oil refill. Prior to the refuel it was starting within a few pulls. I was bucking a felled pine tree(36'' dia) and saw was running...

Make sure you use the highest octane unleaded fuel you can buy. Make sure your mixture is exactly as prescribed, even the slightest deviation can be a problem. My Husgavarna 359 had the problem just like yours when it was new, new. I would have to take the spark plug out and let it dry out or blow it out with air. It would then run like a top.

two things could be happening.......first is vapor lock......make sure you breather tube is clear and working........next is ....it could have a bad ignition coil on it.....after the coil gets hot the spark can become irratic or just not work any more.....
