This is caused by a failing flame switch. It has a sensing bulb that comes from the output end of the pilot tube assy. it will have a copper line returning back to a switch that will have 2 wires on the backside of it.

Hope this helps Ya please rate me.

It is a flame switch. This is the only device in the unit that signals the ignitor to stop trying for ignition.

SOURCE: Electric spark starter on one of the burner runs continuously

check the spark head on that particular burner first for dirt, they all need to be clean to recognize the flame after ignition and sense the flame to shut off the sparker module after ignition, and if not you will need to replace the spark module that fires the sparkers itself, but try cleaning sparkers and underneath where the wires connect to the sparkers first for contamination, its cheaper than starting to replace parts

Burners continuously clicking

The most common cause of this complaint is from liquids getting into the internal igniter switches or igniter wiring for the range and shorting them out. This happens many times when someone cleans a range with liquid cleaners or a pot of water boils over. The fix to this is to unplug the range for 24 to 48 hours to allow the liquid to dry out. Sometimes you can speed this drying process up with a hair dryer. Remove the burner knobs and point the dryer into each burner knob stem to get the heat in there and dry out the switches. Once the liquid has dried then you should be able to plug the range back in and it will work like normal. If you leave it plugged in the excessive use of the ignition system can short out the coil. The second thing it can be is a defective ignition switch. Each burner knob has an ignition switch built into it. If one of those swithces gets stuck in the closed position then this can cause the ignitioin system to continously run. The fix for that is to replace the switch.

Gas cooktop starter continues firing

Turn your gas valve on, but leave your unit unplugged for a few days. You can light your burners in the meantime with a lighter so you can cook. Usually this problem is caused by moisture getting into one of your ignitor switches which are under your burner knobs. Most of the time the switch dries out and you can plug your unit back in after a few days. If it still keeps firing then you will have to replace one or more of your ignitor switches. Usually a very difficult job as most gas cooktops are now sealed burner units which means the top of your cooktop is bolted down to the burners with several screws or nuts that heat up with usage and become almost impossible to remove, without having to drill out the screws, or chiseling off the nuts. Be careful of boilovers or cleaning around the knobs with too much water to prevent this from happening again. Also get a surge protector at least 2000 joules or higher to prevent damage to you spark module. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Ignitor continues on it own

Sounds like your cooker has a flame rectifier supervision system. What this means is, electricity is passed through the flame from the controller, back to the controller/pcb (fire conducts electricity). If the the pcb doesn't recieve a return signal, it thinks the burner has gone out and starts the ignition to try a light the burner again. As simple to fix as a rusty/dirty flame rod or, as complicated as a bad pcb. Get a pro to check it out.

(2) front Burner igniters on my new Matag 30" Cooktop continue to click

Sounds like water got into one of the switches. This usually happens when you wash the knobs. Water stays in the holes and runs down the shaft when replaced. Maytag has issued a recall on some stoves because this can be a fire hazard. UNPLUG THE COOKTOP UNTIL THIS IS FIXED!!!!!!!!! This has happened to me with a whirlpool unit and it tripped a breaker and shot sparks across the kitchen. First go to Maytags web site and see if yours has a recall. If so Maytag will fix it free. While you are waiting leave stove unplugged and light with a match. If you need to fix this yourself disconnect the wires from the two switches this should stop the sparking. Connect one switch at a time and see which switch is bad. Most of the time the electric part of the gas valve can be replaced seperately. and you can do this yourself. If you must actually disconnect a gas pipe unless you really know what you are doing call for service.
