Question about Zyxel Prestige 660R Router (91004397002)

1 Answer

Port forwarding I have a linksys BEFW11S4 and a zyxel-660. I am attempting to forward ports and I can not get them to take. I have switched routers and modems thinking that was the problem but obviously as in most cases, its the operator. I have followed guide after guide step by step and its still a no go. Could someone else be of assistance please?

Even if i turn off the firewall in the modem? There is an option to do that and I have disabled the firewall according to that option.

Ok I have bridged modem and the linksys is givin public IP like you said it would :) Now however....do i need to configure ports in the modem? And do I still forward them to xxx.xxx.x.100?? or use the public ip its broadcasting?

Well to start, your connection would possibly be ADSL and your zyxel is set to provide DHCP address on your network, so its router capabilities could be turned on.

if this is true, you may need to rework the connection settings.

here's a recommendation:

1.set your modem to bridge mode (bridge only)
2.this will then be allowing your linksys to manage your DSL connection through PPPoE
3.after so, your linksys router should get a public IP address for an internet IP when you go to status tab (not an IP address starting with 192.168.1.xx)

after so, you may reconfigure your port-forwarding.

the reason why you will need to set your modem to "bridged" only is that if it is not, your zyxel's firewall is also turned on, provided that the linksys' firewall is always on. so even if you define which port will be opened on the router, it will still be blocked by the modem's firewall.

well disabling the firewall on the router may not do any good since its (Network Access Translator) NAT is still truned on, so it will be best to set your modem to bridged.

good luck on this one p_kat, what application are you trying to run anyway?

no need to do anything in the modem since it is bridged. for the forwarding just forward the ports to the IP address that will use it, like a server perhaps.

Port forwarding on Linksys SRW224G4P

Google took me straight to the manual. This is a Switch not a router so it operates in layer-2 (ethernet). Layer-2 ports are the interfaces on the back of the switch. You want a router that can do layer-3 TCP/IP port forwarding. Layer-3 ports are unsigned 16-bit integers associated with an IP address and a protocol.

Port forwarding not working in ok firmware AGL6 or later

According to my very thorough testing some weeks ago, P-660-HW-D1 port forwarding is really very broken.

The worst thing is that not only does the port forwarding work properly, it lets packets to LAN addresses where they're not supposed to go. This means you're not safe behind LAN.

Firewalled or not, AGL.6 or AGL.7 shouldn't be used at all in my opinion, they're unsafe. When in routing mode, and having several LAN machines behind one Zyxel switch port (i.e. separate switch attached), I found that the port forwarding is completely broken.

I have contacted Zyxel Finland about this issue two weeks ago, and they initially thanked for the finding and said they're passing the issue onwards and investigate it.

The best current solution is to downgrade to (also very buggy) AGL.4.

Linksys BEFW11S4-RM 4 port wireless router

This is an old router. Look at the power light. You must have a STEADY power light. RESET the BEFW11s4 by pushing the reset button for 30seconds. Unplug the power of the BEFW11s4 for 30 seconds. Connect pc to port 2 or 3. pc should get an ip of 192.168.1.x. If you are getting this ip that means that the pc is already detecting the router.
