Where do i find network key?

Follow these steps:
1. Open Internet Explorer then type the numbers 192.168.1.1 on the address bar then press enter.2. Make sure that the pc is connected via hard wired connection.3. After typing the numbers on the address bar, the site should be on the modem settings page.4. Go to basic settings or look for the Wireless Tab then select and browse thru it.5. Under SSID, there will be security option, check if you are using the WEP or WPA security key.6. Whatever the WEP or WPA key is, that is your network key. Since you are already on the said tab, it will be better if you are going to retype or change the WPA - Pre Shared Key and make sure that you will remember whatever the Pre Sahred Key you used.7. Select Save and apply then exit.8. You are good to go then, using your network key..

Thank you for using FixYa

Since I do not know what computer model you have, or exactly which operating system you are using, I can only guess that it is Windows 7. The general instructions would be to delete any connections you have in the connection manager and Create a new connection. If you have used a WEP/password key, you will need to know this and the SSID when you make this new connection. Go into Control Panel, Network Sharing, View Network delete the one for your computer, sometimes it can be refreshed by clicking on it and following notes, otherwise go to the tab bar at the top and click on Add new device and follow instructions to create a new connection.

I hope this was useful and please comment if this was helpful to you.

How do i connect to my laptop

Hi,

If you want to connect your laptop to the wireless router you can do it either wired or wireless, if you prefer to connect it wirelessly you need to know the Network Key (Passphrase) and the Network Name (SSID) of your router. For you to access your router you need to type 192.168.1.1 to he address bar of your browser and it will ask you for a username and password. The default username is "leave it blank" and the default password is admin. Go to the wireless settings page check the SSID and the Network Key. Bare in mind that you can personalize your SSID and network key for you to easily remember it. Now that you already have the information needed go to your computer click on START then CONNECT TO, select the SSID of your router click on connect then enter your Network Key.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a new laptop and am unable to access wireless with the linksys router ( it worked on my old pc, before it died) The infor on my router reads: linksys wrt100 range plus wireless router

Check if the wireless security is ON. If yes, then you will need to know the wireless network key.

To check the settings on the router on a connected computer, use a web browser and in the address bar type: 192.168.1.1.

By default leave the username blank, then the password is admin.

Go to Wireless, take note of the SSID.

Then go to Wireless security, copy the pre-shared key/ wireless network key.

On your new laptop, view the available networks, you should see your SSID. It will prompt you to enter the network key, just type the wireless network key.

I hope this helps!

Win xp desktop connected to wrt54gs router wants laptop running win 7 to connect wirelessly

We need to know the wireless settings on your router before configuring the laptop.

To check the wireless settings, access the setup page of the router by using the desktop's internet browser. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1.

Default login is: leave the username blank, then the password is admin.

Once you are in the setup page, go to the Wireless tab.

Take note of the wireless network name (SSID).

Then go to the Wireless Security tab. Take note of the wireless security settings and the network key (if wireless security is enabled).

On your laptop, in the lower right corner of your screen you will see an icon that looks like this moz-screenshot-1.jpgc147bd5.png.

Click the icon and you will see a list of available networks.

Select the SSID of your router then click connect.

If the wireless security is enabled, it will ask for the security key. Type the wireless network key, then click ok.

It will then connect wirelessly.

Good luck!

No network code for router want to connect my laptop to it

Hello friend,
i guess that you are talking about wireless code, in this case you will need to connect the laptop to the router via Ethernet cable to configure it and then unplug the cable and use the wireless.
so you connect the ethernet cable between the laptop and one of the ports on the router from 1 to 4. then access to the router web interface which is usually 192.168.1.1. then go the wireless tab and name your wireless access point and put a password to secure your network. After that you can unplug your Ethernet cable and use the wireless on your laptop to connect your router wirelessly.
Best Regards,

The wireless settings on the laptop and the router should match. To check the settings on the router you need to access the setup page by typing 192.168.2.1 in a web browser's address bar.

By default the password is blank.

Click the Wireless tab. And take note of the SSID or wireless network name.

Go to Security, then Wireless. If the wireless security is enabled, copy the network key or security key.

On the wireless computer, you should detect SSID and if wireless security is enabled, connect to it with the correct security keys.

Need help setting up linksys with laptop

do not worry about it..
if you are still online with the desktop..
Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.

Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router’s IP Address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Enter].
If should ask for a user name and a passwd.. if it is not ..try with 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.5.1 if still not..
then for a dsl connection you might have changed the ip address of your router..

To check ipaddress
click start then run and in run type cmd and click ok..
you would be in a black dos prompt..
type ipconfig and press ok.. you would find the ipaddress

Step 3:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.

Step 4:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router’s IP Address
then press [Enter].

Step 5:
When the router’s web-based setup page appears, click the Wireless tab.

Step 6:
Look for Wireless Network Name (SSID) and if it’s still set to ‘linksys’ change it to something unique then click Save Settings. or else if the name is changed leave it..
ans below the wireless tab select the Wireless Security sub tab.in the blue bar. check for the defalt transmit key and key 1 if its already setup, then make a note of the key and go to Step 12 if not setb up wireless security first

Step 7:
Select any number under the Default Transmit Key to determine which key you’ll be using. In this example, we selected number 1.

Step 8:
Select 128 bits under WEP Encryption.

Step 9:
Type a wireless network password of your choice such as “MySecretKey”, then click Generate.
NOTE: You should come up with a password that is unique for your network and is a combination of numbers and letters up to 26 characters.

Step 10:
The result will be a string of random characters. Copy the resulting string since this will be the key to your wireless network.
NOTE: Do not give this key to anyone. This will be your wireless network’s key.

Step 11:
Click 3695-017.png.

Step 12:

now go to your latop. right click wireless network connectios icons and click view wireless network.. (if it is xp os)
you would fine the name of the n/w try connecting to it, it would ask for the n/w key enter the 26 digit key which you have setup and click connect, you would go online with your laptop..
