Samsung HCN4226 Convergence IC Problem.

My TV convergence is messed up and looks 3D like so many others.

From searching this site, I found the most likely problem is my convergence IC's. The pico fuse supplying the left IC was blown however the right one wasn't and none of my resistors seemed to be blown. I replaced both STK392-040's and the pico fuse on the left.

When I powered up the tv, it looked exactly the same as before the repair and the right pico fuse was blown this time.

Does anyone have a clue of what could be the problem.

I also would like to know which resistors usually go out with the IC's.

The old IC's had the letters B2H12 at the top right and the new ones have B3C25.

The problem is likely to be the digital convergence board that generates the convergence signal that is amplified by the output ICs.

My blue and green coloring is messed up on my Mitsubishi Medallion. I can't get it to have both colors normally, it has to almost be one or the other. Is this just a contrast issue, or something

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

What you will need to do is convergence. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement parts, step by step instructions, support, etc.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

My magnavox HDTV model #51MP392H/17 the year on the back of the tv is 2004 the picture on the screen looks like its in 3D how can i fix it myself. I tried a new cable box it only worked for a few minutes...

The convergence ICs and resistors have failed. You will need to install a convergence repair kit. The Phillips DPTV305 chassis convergence repair kit is the correct one for your magnavox. Its available at www.tvrepairworld.com and the kit contains the 2 ICs and resistors and the CD with repair instructions.

Samsung HCN4226 Convergence.

Did you remove one side of the resistors from circuit to check them? If you leave them in circuit a blown resistor will test good as it will read the resistance from the surrounding resistors. Usually its the 3.9 ohm resistors identified bu the bands orange, white ,gold and red. and also the 150 ohm identified by the bands brown, green, brown and gold

Problem with Samsung TV

SAMSUNG Convergence Problem

It looks like blue convergence. Look at menu, select convergence and see if blue top is bent down on convergence adjust screen. Probably won’t adjust.

Some Samsungs have convergence IC’s on a separate convergence board in the back of the TV. Others have the IC’s mounted on the main deflection board. Either way the board has to be removed to get at the dud IC’s and associated burnt resistors.

You remove the appropriate board, determine if any resistors are burnt or damaged, replace any burnt or out of tolerance resistors, replace 1 or 2 IC's and re-install the board.

Now you have to adjust it to look like new.

If the unit has not been misadjusted and everything is OK now, running the auto focus may put the picture back to it’s previous stunning quality, as it was before IC failed.

If after self or autofocus it is still misadjusted noticeably, try the customer convergence adjustments. Operators’ manuals are available on web through searching.

If convergence can not be adjusted properly, you messed up chip install or resistors may be wrong value or open; or it needs major adjustment.

If you live around Calgary, Alberta try me instead:

Or try to the find the repairperson part of this website (on the Homepage) and search postal code. Maybe you will be lucky and someone from your area is listed for Projection TV repair.

Most rookies doing this job will cause damage and not be successful. They will pay double for someone to fix their mess or end up scrapping the TV. It is not a simple task. It is more difficult than batteries on a remote.

Good Luck

50 " mitsubishi projection tv

This website:

http://www.techlore.com/forum/thread/18547/Mitsubishi-convergence-IC-s-used-in-the-differant-models/

says your model uses the STK393-110 convergence chip. Another site I looked at said that was a 6 channel amplifier so I'm guessing you only need one to repair your TV.

If you do some google searches on "stk392-110 convergence problem" you'll find some good sites that discuss how to repair the tv. The STK392-110 is a convergence amplifier that is used any many other sets.

Good luck.
