I am sorry to tell you this , but there is not easy fix for an end user beside pressing the reset switch. That could help by resetting the microprocessor, but I think that the problem you are having is a feed screw in the cd mech that must be re-aligned. That is a common problem with the KD-S680. You only wrote that your model was a JVC 680, but Ithink this is the model you are referring to.

It causes the laser pick up to jam in the outer most position and when you put a disc in it will try to play for 3 or 4 seconds and then shut off.

You will need to take it to an authorized JVC service center so that they will be able to look up the tech reports on that unit. This problem is listed as a common one.

You also said that you have no functions at all. Does that mean your tuner doesn't work as well?

If that is true, you may have even more problems with it.

If the problem is just the CD problem, the repair may only cost $65 or so, depending on the rates of the service center. My shop would only charge $65 if the problem is just the CD.

I know this is not very good news, but it does sound like the problem I have researched for you, so a good rating would be appreciated if this is the problem you are having.
A good rating, even when the solution is not a popular one, motivates the experts on FixYa to still answer questions truthfully even if it is not the answer people really want to hear.

Good luck with getting your problem fixed, and let me know if you need more help, I am here if you need me.

Vw golf 2001 there is no cd changer in the car I get a no disc or no magazine error

Since there are several possibilities for stereos in this vehicle, try pushing the CD button again. That should switch it back to single CD mode. If it still reports no disc, and there's a disc in the drive, it may be time for a new head unit. CD drives in auto's typically only last 3-5 years.

How to set the clock on pioneer deh-p59001b radio

On my pioneer I have to have the key on with the receiver turned off. Push and hold the function button for about 3-5 seconds and the clock display should come on with the hours flashing. push the up-down buttons to set hours. Push the right button and the minutes flash, set the minutes with the up-down buttons and then push the source button (or power) to turn on your receiver and your done. Remember you have to have the key on and receiver off to set the time. I think I had to consult my manual 3 times. Pioneer seems to be the only one that won't let you set the clock with the power on.

Display says 'phone' and only the clock works!

Hello easttnmomof3,

It may be that the "mute" lead on the head unit is shorting or grounding. Check the wiring and then reset the unit.

Hope this helps.

Uniden vs1100xr car alarm will not arm or disarm, have found valet mode button which sets & resets ok but remote just flashes led no chirps or lights flashing

I had the same problem with my vs1100xr. The remotes for these (and other) unidens have a rolling code. Seems to me that either the remote runs out of new codes and cycles back to the beginning, or the alarm base unit somehow loses track of the codes. Either way, the alarm base unit stops accepting the codes of your remote, and so needs to be purged of its code tracking memory - reset, if you like. This is essentially the procedure for training the alarm base unit to recognise new remote (and forgetting old remotes).
This procedure is:-
1) Disarm alarm, or if in valet mode, take it out of valet mode (push valet button 3 times)
2) Turn the ignition on and off 2 times within 15 seconds.
3) Put the alarm into valet mode (push valet button 3 times) within 15 seconds of completing step 2. Alarm should beep, and remote training has started.
4) Within 15 seconds of completing step 3, push the button (#1) of the first remote you wish to use for the alarm. Alarm should beep, indicating acceptance of remote. Repeat for other remotes you wish to use - up to 4 in total. (Once the first remote has been accepted, you have all the time in the world to make the alarm learn other remotes)
5) Turn ignition on and off to end remote learning mode. Alarm should beep 2 times. New remotes have now been learned and previous remotes forgotten.

Some of these details may vary from country to country - who knows. If this doesn't work, I suggest that you contact Uniden in your country to obtain the procedure. Took me a few tries to get the timing right, what with the valet button hard to get at and having only 15 seconds between steps.

Hi , I just brought a KD-G646 head unit and it wont play cd's at all. The radio works fine, but the usb only works if the unit is turned down. Could i have something wired wrong or is the unit faulty. It...

well, the USB problem i cant help you with, but if the cd isnt loading, theres probably something wrong with the loading mechanism, which usually means that the unit is faulty. it would be more cost efficient to buy a new head unit than to pay someone for the parts and labor to repair the one you have.

Hi colinelva.
I can probably help you but I need more info.
Lets start with the vehicle, What year ,? What specific model?, What type of head unit came out? Was it factory?
Did you use a wiring adapter, or just cut the plug off and hardwire it?. If so give me the color code of all the wires that you used in the dash. are their any left over but not hooked up? How many speakers? All Factory?

I don't need any info about the JVC Head unit.
Lets start with that, and we will take it from there.
Regards, Paul
