Horizontal lines and shadows

Hi, my set has started acting funny. It seems after its been on for a while, I get horizontal lines and a ghostly shadow image. Panasonic said to unplug it from the surge protector which I did to no avail. Any ideas?

    Signal source doesn't appear to matter ... same problem happens with a DVD or even if there is no video source -- I can tell by looking at the menus. Sounds like a service call is next.

    Well according to the authorized service center, the light engine needs replacing to a tune of about $1700. It's not worth repairing so I'm talking to Panasonic about what to do next. The set is less than 2 years old.

Good Day, lperlste;

Yes, I would for sure follow up with factory. Panasonic does have device that help reprogram the light engine. I for the name as of now but I will get back with you on this. Iv'e used it A couple times with Pan only and it does correct most light engine problems.

I'll get back and let you the proper device name.

Hold on, big IRISH.

Yes, sounds like you need the service call. Sorry, it was not a consumer fix, but make sure you seek an authorized repair company.

Good Day;

Try doing the same thing to cable/sat box. If to no avail call your signal provider, or possible your TV is experiencing a convergence problem, if picture is concave. Does it do the same thing when you play tape/dvd?? If it does it's the TV, if not the signal source.

Good Luck, big irish.

Let us know.

Hi, if the shadow is colored lines then you probably need the convergence ICs and possible reisitors near them replaced .
If the shadows is just like a ghost of the image or a bar from top to bottom, then check if it does it on every input (dvd for example) , there are blanking bars that you can't see past the edges of the picture and when you have a bad cable signal you can see the ghost of the blanking bar sometimes. if it does it does not show the shadow when watching a DVD then its a signal issue with your cable/satelitte .
If your convergence is the issue, try the adjustments first and if that doesn't correct it, you can replace the ICs using kit # x480293 or stk392-110 (2 ICs) soldered in very technical for even a technician.
repairman cost about $250-$350
hope this helps

Picture pretty good but vertical lines (shadows) and ghosts

You're going to have to be more specific. When you are messing with the convergence settings, are all of the crosshairs straight lines? Are they crisp or fuzzy? Can you successfully move the Red and Blue crosshairs up/down/left/right? Have you opened up the TV yet? I'll help you from there once we get some details.

Ghosts on my tv

if you can, try hooking up the tv to a different cable line in the house or bring a different tv into the room where the bad picture is [ you may have a bad connection or wire ] if this doesn't help, try rabbit ear antennas just to get a picture. if you still have ghosts on your tv, the problem is with your tv.if the picture is fine, there maybe a problem with your cable service.
hope this helps

You have bad convergene output IC's. There are 2 in the set and we always replace them both because the one that s not bad will likely fail in ashort time causing you to have a 2nd labor bill.
