I have belkin g wireless that i have to constantly connect

I have experienced the same issue with belkin routers. First, test your laptop with other wireless connections {e.g. Starbucks, McDonalds, etc..} to see if your laptop's wireless adapter is working okay. If so then it sounds like your Belkin Router needs to be reset to the factory defaults and then your personal wireless network settings re-entered.

If that doesn't work it may have to be replaced.

Do you need a hardwired computer to use a Belkin F5D7234-4 Wireless-G Router?

No, you need a wireless lan in your computer to pick up the wireless
signal. Its a piece of hardware.

You need to see what expansion slots you have so you can get a wireless card.

Most laptops come with a wireless card and a modem for phone line
and RJ45 port for Ethernet, cable.

I just bought a belkin n1 wireless router at a thrift store. everything works but the wireless part. its all hardwired to my desktop, but my laptop won't pick up a signal from it.

I would suggest going into the router itself at 192.168.1.1, and reset to the factory settings, or if you are familiar enough with router configuration, make sure your SSID is being broadcasted. Also, make sure you are currently using the up to date firmware.

Also make sure you are using the correct security settings to connect up to the router once it's discovered under the "Available Wireless Networks".

Belkin router, apple lap top and del Inspiron are the three I have in the house. How to connect the new computer to the router?

You should be able to hardwire (Ethernet cable) those pc's to the router. If it is wireless and you are not running cables directly from the router to the pc's, you have to have wireless cards installed in each of those computers in order to pick up the 802.11 wireless signal. The wireless software on the pc will find the router as long as the router is in range. If you have setup the router properly you should be fine. You may just need to power out and reboot the modem and router after connecting the pc's in order to assign new IP's to each computer receiving a wireless signal.

If you have any problems please respond with as much information as possible including model numbers and ISP provider.

Trendnet router on 2nd floor gives poor signal on first floor.

The Trendnet router did not get very many if any good reviews. I would say any router is better than what you have. Belkin is ok but on the low end of OK.

Spend some time on CNet, PCMagazine, Anandtech, Tom's Hardware and look at some of the reviews they have done.

Good luck

The router is lit up but my laptop is not picking up the internet

Try first to power cycle the router by powering it down for 30 seconds then after that check if your laptop will be able to detect the wireless signal from that router and try to connect to the wireless network...
