Kenmore Dual Action Top Load washing machine bolt won't catch
Hi everyone - I've been browsing around and I have a problem with what I believe is the agitator. The washing machine is about 20 years old or so. The washine works fine - it spins, it drains water, it fills with water. It just won't agitate. So I removed the cap and located the bolt in a white flat cap. The bolt is not recessed but flush. I got the socket wrench and started trying to unscrew the bolt. Well the bolt keeps spinning and is not releasing anything. The agitator assembly won't pop up and feels like its still caught on something.
Funny - if I can get in there I'm sure the cogs are just worn down and need replacing but I JUST CAN'T LOOSEN THE BOLT!!!

There are pads on the tripod and skid plate that wear out and can be replaced. There is fluid in the tub ring that may have leaked out. The base (tripod) can be bent and cause vibration problems. The flooring material and support can cause this also. I would start with the floor and work up through and eliminate the causes to find the culprit. Eric
You need to get an agitator repair kit. Remove the cap on the agitator. Some have a second inside plastic cover/cap. You will need a long extension and rachet and 1/2" socket to remove the hold down bolt. Remove and replace the parts with the kit parts. Replace the cover. 10 minute repair... online kit is about $13.00.
the way to do this depends on if it is a dual action or triple action agitatior. dual action - Remove fabric softner dispenser -pull off plastic cap with flat blade screwdriver - bolt is under plastic cap 7/16" triple action (bounces up and down) remove fabric softenr and plastic cap with a 1/2" drive socket extention, put into square hole and unscrew spring assembly. once unscrewed top portion of agitator will come off
Hi,does the top part of the agitator move freely when you move it by hand?Or does it catch,if it does not catch the the cogs other wise known as dog ears are worn out.Do not believe the little cogs that catch inside the top part of the agitator can be replaced. You may have to replace the whole agitator unit on some models they are around 40.00.
