The instructions for this procedure are quite involved if you are talking about formatting and reinstalling the laptop operating system software. You need to have these things:
A Legitimate copy of the Operating system software on an official microsoft release CD that is bootable. Then you go to the bios in the startup usually by pressing the delete key while laptop is booting. then go to the boot proiority list and make sure the cd drawer is in the first option. Reboot the computer and then when the option to boot from cd comes up, press any key and it will boot from the cd.
Once the installation options appear, you need to select the hard disk to use and then select the format and install Windows XP. Select format using NTFS filing system and then the process starts to format the drive and install the file need to complete setup.
Once the GUI portion of set up installs and you have logged in for the first time, don't forget to change the boot priority back to the hard disk!
