Any attempt to repair your xbox will void your warranty with microsoft. If it is outside of microsofts 3 year RROD warranty then you can certainly try it. I suggest just shipping it back to them however.

I think you just god the infamouse RROD. If your are still under warranty you can send it to microsoft, if not repair it using one of those RROD repair guide using the reflow method and EXANGE the xbox at your local ebgames... be carrefull to remove the Warranty sticker using a hairdryer...

My xbox 360 trys to start but after 2-3 seconds the fan speeds up then it shuts off and two red lights show

Hello there

From what you have said I can tell you that you have the RROD red light of death - 2 lights error

The main causes are Hardware failure, overheating or wear & tear.

You may need to perform simple maintenance, clean or in some cases adjust settings.

To get the best advice on where to start I recommend a Xbox 360 Repair Guide, From this you can fix the problem at home and avoid any large repair bills. Its easier than it sounds when you have help from the guide.

The other solution would be to send the console off to Microsoft, This is free if your still in warranty. If your console is out of warranty then the usual price of repair is $100

Glad I could Help!

Three flashing red lights, two on the left and one on the right? Is this something I can fix? If not how much are we talking about for repairs?

Hi you have got the dreaded red ring of death, this is very common with all xboxes and their are people out their that will fix them for you for a fee.

their is nothing you can do yourself to solve this problem as its a case of taking the xbox apart and removing the heat sinks and the x clamps and fitting new parts and new heat sink paste, this is a big job and requires special tools. so its not for the novice to do.

i do the repairs to these on a regular basis and 8 out of 10 i fix work again but others tend to be to far gone.

any way the reason you are getting this warning light is due to it over heating, check the date on the sticker on the back of the xbox as it is covered by warranty for 3 years for this exact fault so if its less than 3 years old go to the xbox website and get them to replace it for you, if its outside this time then you have 2 options you could either repair it or sell it.

you can buy repair kits and get the instructions off the net but without having done it before it can by really hard to do and you could do more harm than good.

when they built these they used cheap parts and cheap heat sink paste now over time this causes it to over heat and then you get the dreaded red ring of death and this shows you the either the gpu or cpu chip has over heated.

now the repair involves taking the xbox apart which is not easy but can be done you need to then remove the x clamps and then remove both heat sinks. once their removed you need to clean them up and remove all the old heat sink paste and use new paste, you also need to get xbox rrod repair kit as you wont be using the cheap x clamp bits anymore these will go in the bin as this is what caused the problem in the first place.

let me know what you would like to do or if you need further assistance ok

i also be damaged xbox's but im based in UK
if you are going to do this yourself then make sure you have no warranty left as this fault is covered for 3 years by microsoft so if the date on the sticker on the back of the xbox is within this time all you need to do is go to the microsoft webiste and tell them and they will give you a replacement.

i charge 25pound to do the repair so you should be looking around this price if you are paying someone also their is no guarantee the repair will work as the damage caused by the over heating could have destroyed the cpu or gpu chip but you wont know this till after the repair work has been done.

if you are doing the work yourself then you need to get a erpair guide off the net so just google rrod repair guide and this will list loads of sties with these guides, you will also need to buy an xbox 360 rrod repair kit, you can get these off ebay for next to nothing, then you need to get some heat sink paste and some special torque screwdrivers to remove the xbox case.

this is not an easy job to do and getting it wrong can do a lot more harm than good if you put to much pressure on the heat sinks when you put them back on this will destroy the gpu and cpu chip so be warned.
make sure you get a guide and correct tools or if you are unsure get someone to do it who knows what their doing.

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

My xbox keeps on freezing and the red light on the power button keeps flashing,no picture was coming out of tv? what seems to be the problem??

three ring problem is a common problem among xbox 360 manufactured from 2006-2008,

step to do

1. as soon as u get 3 ring, swith off the device for more than 1 hour and unplug all wires to the xbox (including the main adapter wire), now try to replug and swith on, there are chance it will work

The cause of this problem, players 1,2 and 3 lighting up red, is related to the motherboard overheating and the microprocessors separating from the over heated motherboard.
The options you have are either download a repair manual, if you feel you are tech savvy enought to dis assemble and repair using a RRoD repair kit found on Ebay, otherwise, if the unit is under warranty send back to Microsoft, They increased the warranty life in regaurds to this issue recently so check to see if you are covered before attempting any repairs yourself.
Good Luck.

Three red lights around the "on" button and a green light on the power supply

3 red lights on the Xbox 360 is the most common error and it means "General Hardware failure. To fix this you need to stop the amount of heat that the GPU and the CPU is taking.

To do this you can use the recommended guide that has been on the market for 3 years or you can send it in.

No picture on xbox still

hi, mine did this yesterday, i got my console for my birthday in march 06

i found a sloution on the internet which i thought was worth a try

wrap the console in a towel to block air getting in, and turn it on, leave it until it is reallyreallyreally hot

now you can choose to either wait til it overheats and you get the rrod
or do what i done and flick the plug on and on, and it'll come up with the rrod

then just turn it off and turn it back on

it worked for me just now, and if it doesn't microsoft fixed my console for rrod last year even though it was well out of warranty, and they did it for free

so if it doesn't work, send it off saying you've got the rrod problem, and you should get it repaired anyway :)
