Taking out the CD drive will have no effect on this. Take it back as quickly as possible and have him fix or replace it. I hope you got some type of warranty with it. I sell refurbished laptops at my shop, I give a fix or replace warranty with every machine, the length of the warranty depends on the model. I say this because, my shop is located near several truck stops, and there is a guy that sells laptops out of the back of his car. He says warranty, but then is no where to be found if there is a problem. If you can't get the vendor to fix the problem, then get back with me and i'll see if we can get you up and running.

I have a laptop that I sign in with a password and then get a blue screen.

There are a few things which could cause the problem that you describe. However, as your laptop is less than a month old go back to the vendor/shop where you bought it and get them to sort it out. Take your receipt with you.

You have an automatic 12 month warranty with a new item. Don't try and do anything yourself as this may invalidate the warranty.

The onus is on the vendor. They either have to give you a new unit, refund your money or repair/refurbish it.

This may sound like a cop-out but you'll find that vendors are very helpful indeed. Laptops aren't easy to repair by yourself .. so .. let the vendor sort it out. Consumer law is on your side.

A few years back I bought a brand new laptop in a computer superstore. When I got it home it didn't work. The next day I went back to the superstore and there in the queue at the customer service desk was a woman who had bought an identical model the previous day .. and it didn't work. All sorted out within minutes.

The ps-5161-1d1 in my Dell GX280 is not working,

LOL, What do you mean still does not work? Does the computer try to come on? If not, the refurbished Power Supply is bad or the Motherboard is completely dead.

I ordered refurbished ink cart for dell 924 all in one. Alignment page printed perfect. After that color won't print at all. Black printed great for few days. Now alignment page just a few streaks of...

There's really no help to offer except to suggest you either buy original replacement cartridges or to switch to another vendor if you want to keep using refurbs. The refurbished cartridges often don't work, or work unreliably. I personally have had trouble even with the refurbs sold by the big office stores. About all you can do is check the vendor's warranty and see if you're eligible for replacement cartridges.

To get a master password for the system, you'll need to contact Dell Technical Support 800-624-9896 for USA, prove you are entitled to use the system and then they can generate a new password. If out of warranty, there may be a fee.

Dell Latitude C540/C640

I think you are wasting a lot of effort, I know how you feel and sometimes you cannot win.
Junk it for parts.

I do volunteer work for Technical Aid For the Disabled (a charity organisation) and repair/refurbish laptops and computers for disabled people and I hate to see good computers go to waste.

Dell Dimension 5100 will not power up

No doubt you've fixed this or given up by now but in the interest of helping others with this problem here is a solution. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the Front I/O & Control Panel Assembly. I suspect that the USB ports had shorted out and took the whole card down. The not turning on problem was preceded by the USB ports failing. I couldn't figure out how to bypass the card to power the computer. Dell won't help if you are not under warranty (unless you purchase some additional support). I couldn't find a replacement board on Dell's web site but found some other vendors that sold them. I bought one for about $70 and it did the trick. There seems to be at least two similar model numbers for this card. I don't know if they are interchangeable or what the differences are. If you look on the card there should be a series of numbers. Look for an "X" followed by 4 numbers. In my case it was "X8682". This is the model number for the card. If you search for shopping sites with your Dell model and this card number you should find vendors to buy the card. I think this is a design flaw having the USB ports on the same connection as the on switch. It looks like many people have had this problem. One bad usb port and your whole system is taken down. My guess is that the average user is not going to be able to figure this out and will spend lots of money unnecessarily. For those comfortable opening up the case and covers (you can download the manual from the Dell site) and unplugging ribbon cables this is a fairly simple fix. Keep in mind the card won't come with any instructions. Make sure you follow power safety rules and ground yourself.

After talking to a HP Technical support gentleman, I was told that my printer was not compatable with Vista. I bought my HP Printner in 2003, It was working but when my new Dell had to be reprogramed , It wouldn't work. So it didn't get resolved
Thank you
