did you dropped your camera before..?

  • Anonymous Jun 22, 2008

first you remove the battery, then it was better to clean the unit.,esp. the lense area and on its sides. then put back the battery, then test...

  • Anonymous Jun 22, 2008

if the first procedure was no success, there could be a damaged or a mechanical failure inside the camera, thats why the lens never retract.. it is better to get someone who has a professional knowledge to service the unit.. its not advisable that you disassemble the unit and try to fix it on your own, if you have no background on digital camera repair...
    let me know.

On my Nikon Coolpix S4000, when power is turned on, the lens extends fully, opens, retracts fully, and then closes automatically. Lens Error then appears. It does not make noises and has not been used...

I had the same problem with a similar Coolpix model. It's an error on the lens mechanism. Maybe you pressed the lens by accident while they were retracting, or something like that... It's really a delicate mechanism. I think you have to send it for a service... Sorry!

Hi,

Is the lens totally stuck? Does it even move a little? Did you try to power cycle the camera?

My pentax option A10 turned black on the screen and won't open

Since the screen went black BEFORE the lens retracted, it makes me think this is a main board problem. The only other possibility is that it is the lens assembly, but since it went black BEFORE the lens retracted, I don't think that is it. I can replace the main board for $40, or you can send it to pentax in Arizona, and they will do it for about $90.
The main board is NOT something that I would suggest anyone try to replace as a DIY project. There are too many small screws, and delicate connections to deal with.
You can contact me at: mrfixitmark at comast dot net

If you just want to sell the camera as-is, I also buy all pentax a10, a20, a30, a40 cameras, in any condition.

Camera lens stuck

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.

Pentax Optio M20

Maybe.
But it does seem to be a lens problem. Possibly the lens is out of sync as mentioned in another post here.If there is a grinding, the lens is probably damaged by dirt or sand.
Make sure the batteries or battery is fully charged.

Zoom lens won't fully retract

This is a gradual breakdown of the zoom mechanism due to ingress of dirt or having had a knock. A repair will be expensive- Fuji support will advice.
