Hi,

It seems as if there's no permanent live to the memory.
If your swap over the black and yellow cables [link black to yellow, and yellow to black], this should solve the problem.

Hope that helps.

Hi I have a Kenwood KDC -W3041 car Stereo and when I switch off ignition I loose preset stations any ideas ?? Cheers Lorcan

Yes, there is a wire that is intended to be hooked up to power at all times, and this wire appears to be hooked up to switched power. Look closely at the wiring diagram, in terms of power wires, and find one that is to be switched and one that is to be hot all of the time...

KDC-w3041 says PROTECTION when i turn it on

Sometimes if the power is removed it requires a code to be input, to remove the protection, you will have to contact Kenwood, and ask for the code to clear it. This is an anti theft feature. Often the car dealers have these, or try an auto-electrician.. BTW your English is good.

When I plug my iPod into my car stereo, it's a Kenwood KDC-W3041, sound only comes out of the speakers in one door, but when I play a CD, sound comes from speakers in both doors. What's wrong?

If your using the aux plug in the front make sure the plug is fully inserted into the ipod and the stereo. then make sure all audio settings are set correctly. If you are using any other type of connection for your ipod ensure the connection is not loose.

Kenwood kdc-w3041 protect mode

Hello ia737,

The "protect" display is probably being caused by a shorted or grounded (touching vehicle chassis or other ground) speaker wire. Check the speaker wires for bare spots, etc and insulate or replace as necessary.

You do not need to remove the fuses to force a "cold reset" of the W-3041. You can simply press the "reset" button on the front of the unit. It's the little recessed button at the lower left of the volume control. Use the straightened end of a paper clip or ballpoint pen to momentarily hold the button in.

Hope this helps.

Installation in a boat. How to maintain the memory?

Hi,

A possible method would be to hardwire a rechargeable 12V battery to the yellow wire and ground. The rechargeable does not necessarily have to be high capacity, Actually, a series of 10 AA 1.2volts penlight battery would do the job. Alternately, a small motorcycle battery would probably be better. Wiring wise, pls reference below diagram.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
